Newbie Question 2... - Dan Caviness - 02-17-2014

Is there a way to get the General Help or Scenario Notes back when playing Tiller's BGCW?

I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit, quad core if it matters...

Thanks!

Dan

Sorry I can't help you out as I do not own any of the BG titles.

Hopefully, some one who does own the game will be able to help you out very soon.

Good Luck Smile

Noticed that too a while back, but I don't know how you can get rid of the MS Win reply and get to actual game help. I am familiar with the games, so if you have a question, ask here or email me.

You might be better off just upgrading to HPS ACW instead of Battleground games.

It is a Windows thing....the HPS games do it too....

I forgot how to fix it...

Thanks for the replies guys!

Careful Havoc...I may take you up on that offer...lol...

I seem to notice that most of you have "moved on" from the Battleground Series, and after playing half a dozen scenarios I have to admit, the game is rather limited tactically. Basically it appears a game of maneuver and learning some nuance as regards to ZOCs and capture.

It would be nice to access the Help Menus and Scenario Notes I believe, especially if fire tables and movement tables are included. I've been creating these the "hard way" by taking notes...Whip

Not complaining mind you, as a long time CS (WWII) fanatic it has been fun to smell the blackpowder once again...still...

What I was hoping for was something closer to my old boardgame "Terrible Swift Sword" which had a lot more nuance and subtlety, or better put, was more complex.

Would you guys recommend trying the HPS ACW?
Is that the "go to" game for the blackpowder crowd these days?

Hopefully this doesn't stir up a hornets nest of "this one's better" but if so let the bullets fly in good nature please...

Again, thanks to all who replied.
I get the feeling I'm WAAAAAYY behind the curve here...Whistle

Regards,

Dan

I own all of the ACW John Tiller HPS/JTS titles and from my POV, they are alot of fun to play and highly recommend them.

Each title has their own fair share of small, medium, and large sized scenarios.

You will have an more enjoyable time learning the new system by selecting a title that covers a theater of war that you have an interest in.

Gettysburg happens to be one of my favorites.

Here at the Blitz, we also offer several 3rd party art mods and unit graphics for all of the different titles. All John Tiller HPS/JTS games are very 3rd party art mod friendly. Wink

Feel free to post as many questions as you may have.

Good Luck!

Gettysburg is also one of my favorites.

Looking at the HPS and the JTS series...I'm surprised they still sell each battle/campaign separately...and they appear to run about $40 per...any compilation versions available?

JTS appears to be the most recent effort, not sure of release dates but the graphics appear a little better.

2d graphics are good, I like BGs 3d better, but I stay in 2d unless I want a better look at the map. I would love to see better 3d graphics one of these days.

Very good selection with many scenarios in all of them, historical and what if. Plus some of the games have more than just the title battle. Antietam also has both Bull Runs and South Mountain. My only real problem is some of the titles have supply wagons move one point per hex on the dirt roads and others it costs them two points per hex. makes it tough to do things away from the turnpikes. Can't go wrong with any of them.
