Game Designer John Hill has passed away - Richie61 - 01-14-2015

Sad day for board gamers. :( Squad Leader was my game as a kid.

Quote:John Hill (1944- 2015) was an American game designer and military analyst who was probably best known for designing the popular wargame Squad Leader, one of the best-selling wargames of all-time, along with the game Johnny Reb III. In the 1960s, he founded the Conflict Games Company which he eventually sold to Game Designers Workshop. In 1978, he was named to the Wargaming Hall of Fame. He was a frequent contributor to the Johnny Reb magazine Charge!

In the 1980s, he began working for the government as a senior military analyst where he worked for 16 years including at Los Alamos National Laboratory. At various times, he lived in Indiana, Virginia, and New Mexico.

Another hero falls. Very sad that his genius has been called to serve another diety.

SL - the best wargame ever created, the stepping stone of all future games.

Well done that man! I still own all of the SL games and am teaching my son them! Wink

He wants to design compuke games.. I told him.. Jake, anyone can make a compuke game that is simply a remake of someone else's game.. Get your own game and make it into a board game, that will eventually be made into a 'puter game.

Well guys.....What do you tell your kid?! really..? you have to be better than 30 million
other freaking puter game designers (like the Chinese) or.. be your own man? MAKE YOUR OWN GAME.. Whistle

Really.....what do you tell your kid, who looks at you and says.. I can beat you Dad...??? The Irony of life.. I taught this boy so much.. really... everything I know about wargaming....am I wrong to tell him anything else? Kid wins more often than not on boardgames against me and my friends, and I don't complain at all and at the end of the day, I tell him what I could'of or should'of and he lets me know how he would'of taken care of that... great mind, beautiful execution.. AND ALWAYS courteous of his win..  humble, yet eager to show his skill.. can only wonder how he will do in the boardgaming championships....

Are we... our own.... best opponent? Was you lucky enough to have a son..  fellows.. I have a daughter that I am afraid for anyone who crosses her in the wrong way... She will put you in a position that you will only regret crossing her path...quickly and decisively.. X box or PC or in real life.. I really think my daughter is more devastating than my son... but she hates boys and..girls... a dangerous prodigy of whatever you may think of me... LMAO

Teaching her how to shoot and drive.. God save us all............... ROTFLMAO

Boys don't always do better.... but mess with these 2 together and you'll be put in your place.. I credit my wife's Greek spartan-istic genes for that..... I'm Irish and that only means I drink well and fight like an idiot.... LMAO
