Camapign 1776 - AstroBlues - 01-02-2016 A gaming friend and I are thinking of getting Campaign 1776 from the John Tiller Website. How is the game? Are the scenarios pretty balanced and is it worth the money? RE: Camapign 1776 - Stejones82 - 01-06-2016 I enjoyed this game a bunch!! C1776 was my first foray into PBEM wargaming and I played for many years. You will find much more activity at the Colonial Campaigns Club where I played about four years or so. Then I switched to Squad Battles and mostly left the EAW series. The game is balanced, and is especially rewarding when the players keep in mind the period tactics and maneuvers. Make sure that you get the most recent updates as many of the scenarios were modified about three years ago. Enjoy!! RE: Camapign 1776 - jim pfleck - 01-06-2016 The game has plenty of balanced scenarios and covers pretty much every engagement of the war. I played through PBEM nearly all of the historical battles and I really enjoyed it. The large battles are lots of fun and both sides have a chance to win. You can find players here and, as Stejones82 mentions, the CCC has the strongest community for this game (I recently rejoined there after many years absence). Also I found the patches to the game on the HPS website. RE: Camapign 1776 - Compass Rose - 01-06-2016 I am not sure what differences there are, if any between the HPS and JTS version. Someone can correct me if I am wrong on this. There are no JTS version updates because the JTS version was created after the last set of HPS updates were released. Because of this, the JTS version should include all of the updates automatically in the download. I would highly suggest getting the JTS version. If any future updates do get released, you will have them available alot sooner for the JTS version than the HPS version. If you want anything official, contact JTS support and ask your questions directly to them so you are 100% confident about your purchase. Each force has their positive & negative aspects. I've been playing the EAW series for years. It was my last series I got into for Tiller & it took me a while until I really got into it, but I love the series the most out of the others I have played. Each of the games are different enough that they have their own feel to them, but they have common concepts across the series. They really are Tiller's hidden gems. After you get acquainted, I suggest you get War of 1812 if you like the series. That one is a lot of fun. It is the most balanced in my opinion, but gives some good challenges. French & Indian War is great too. Some good fortress sieges in that one and a lot of Natives too. Some massive maps & scenarios. Mexican-American War is neat because it is different. It's a blend of the EAW with some ACW concepts. It's fun overall, but try the others first. |
