Wish List (3) - Casualties - Eckerslyke - 04-30-2016 I've never been involved in a battle. Other than the odd time outside the Stonemason's Arms when United were playing at home. But I'm a bit puzzled about the way casualties are dealt with in our scenarios. Example - a square forms in clear terrain. Maybe 700-800 men. They get shot up by artillery, but they hold their ground. (Could have used them outside the Stonemason's Arms last Saturday night!) They are eliminated, eventually. All 700 - 800 of them, lying there dead, or pretty close to it. But the terrain is still clear, perfect for the next cavalry charge to cross that hex with nary a slip nor slither by any horse. How realistic is this? RE: Wish List (3) - Casualties - BigDuke66 - 05-05-2016 Not all all realistic, but I think it's much more likely that the infantry would rout away as casualties & fatigue raises. Besides that, the loss in men simply reflects the lowering of combat power, that doesn't mean in any way that these guys are all dead, I think only a small portion would be dead, the rest can be: -wounded -carrying wounded soldiers/officers back -trying to get ammo -decided to throw away their musket and run -play dead etc. |
