Fulda Gap 85 - Helo Question - Kool Kat - 10-16-2016

Gents:  Smoke7

In the Modern Series, when you use a ground unit to "assault" a helo, the message "Assault Overrun" is displayed and the combat result is your ground unit displaces the helo to an adjacent hex and the ground unit then occupies the hex vacated by the helo with no losses to either side.

What exactly (in battle field terms) is happening here?  Idea2

How can ground units "assault" a helicopter that is in flight?

Any Modern Series vets who can add insight?

Thank you all in advance!  Smile

I'll vote for area denial - radar returns and surface-to-air targeting devices used by the ground units let the heliborne assets know that it's best not to fly in there therefore denying their ground interdiction capability. You should not treat the "assault" label for the technique too directly thus.

Fancy a game perhaps? I have just happened to have a slot or two open and been missing a NATO vs WP combat operation for some time. I have all of the modern titles.

Unfortunately, my game slots are full.  Military2

But, I will circle back to you when I do get an opening.

Would like to try my hand at a Nato vs. Warsaw Pact PBeM match at a later date.

Thanks for the feedback.
