Map Expansion - chrisp - 12-02-2016 Any chance we can get a map extension for PzC Normandy? Like, add 20 hexes to the east so that we can game the Falaise gap? Who would we ask? As an alternate, I'm working on doing such a thing myself (I have already expanded the map, for example, but only with blank hexes), and have written a program to calculate checksums. Anybody know of a good map at 1 klick per hex I can use for reference? Chris P. RE: Map Expansion - Mr Grumpy - 12-02-2016 I would guess there is zero chance JTS would revisit this title and add an expanded map, so if you have the ability to do this yourself then that is the best way forward. RE: Map Expansion - chrisp - 12-02-2016 Ok then, I will! RE: Map Expansion - Warhorse - 12-02-2016 I would love to figure out how to do this, tinkered with it, but time is an issue! I added 20 hexes to the east and 5 to the south. But it's gonna take time to figure out what goes there. But you'll be able to use the Poles when I'm done. Not certain how you cracked the map editor Chrisp! We 'might' update the map for the upcoming series refresh as it is not a huge issue to add a little more on... Here are some source of maps; I think this is the best one you will find; http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/france_100k/txu-pclmaps-oclc-6477007-caen-falaise-7-f.jpg It comes from this 1:100,000 series http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/france_100k/ Here are 1:50,000 (more for Panzer Battles/Squad Battles) for more detail. http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/france_and_belgium/ David RE: Map Expansion - chrisp - 12-03-2016 How? Patience! Anyway, thanks a bunch for the map links. These are just what I was looking for! Chrisp Chris Perleberg RE: Map Expansion - 2-81 Armor - 12-06-2016 (12-03-2016, 12:37 AM)chrisp Wrote: How? Patience! I'm really happy to see that someone has figured out how to expand the maps....there was a discussion in 2014 that touched on this as well: https://www.theblitz.club/message_boards/showthread.php?tid=66837&highlight=expanded+map Consensus at the time seemed to be that it was a popular idea to bring some new life for older titles, but that it would be almost impossible to do without the right map making tools and of course, good sources. The Panzer Campaigns series and the Modern Campaigns series are in need of some love. Right now Panzer Battles is at the fore front, and it looks to stay that way for a long while yet. No problem with that, since there is only a very small group working on any JTS title for any series, and things do have to be prioritized. I can always hope that Chris is successful in his efforts, and that his knowledge is shared, or an official map editing tool is made available that allows us to indulge in our various fantasies. At any rate, good luck with your project Chris, and I hope you're successful! RE: Map Expansion - Strela - 12-06-2016 There is some love coming! https://www.theblitz.club/message_boards/showthread.php?tid=70164 David RE: Map Expansion - chrisp - 12-06-2016 (12-06-2016, 03:04 AM)2-81 Armor Wrote:(12-03-2016, 12:37 AM)chrisp Wrote: How? Patience! Well, I've gone ahead and written a couple of programs to calculate checksums and to translate a position in the .map file to the hexgrid and vice versa. As of today, well, I extended the coast to Trouville and added Mt. Camisy, but that's about it ;-) |
