Melee limbered artillery battery - Jagger - 05-24-2017

I just had a limbered artillery battery dash out in front of my defensive line.  I have a regiment close enough to charge and melee the limbered artillery.  But now I am wondering.  Can you melee and capture a limbered artillery battery or will the limbered battery simply retreat if attacked and loses the melee?

The battery will take losses but will be able to retreat

Thanks.  So an infantry melee with limbered artillery can knock out guns.

The scenario is Chickamauga.  The 4 guns pulled into one of those small open fields off the Brotherton road.  They were fairly close to my artillery, 5-6 hexes, so I used artillery fire instead of an infantry charge.  My artillery actually knocked out 2 of the 4 guns.  I was fairly surprised.  Usually all I see is fatigue accumulation with counterbattery fire but close range and in the open appears to have made a difference.  Lesson learned.
