RBR, a good starter title? - Stejones82 - 04-17-2018

Greetings!

Experienced SqB and EAW player, and have been eyeing the Nappy series for while now.  Trouble is, with RL I have limited time to run turns - so monster scenarios are not good for me.  PBEM games in which I can run my turn in 10-15 minutes tops are good.

Would RBR be a good title to jump into the series?

Hey Steve,

All JTS Nap titles have small, medium, and large sized scenarios.

You get a lot of bang for your buck with this title and yes it would make for a good first title for you.  Wink

If you like EAW, you should easily love this series as it a ton of fun.  It's like EAW on steroids times 2! Thumbs Up

And you might as well start at the beginning too! RBR predates Campaign Marengo though both run parallel from 1796 to 1800. Campaign Marengo will have more smaller sized famous battles to offer such as Rivoli where each side had approx. 22-28k men per side.

I will add in that Campaign Leipzig is also a title you will want to get eventually. Battle sizes range from the smaller battles to the mega-sized Battle of Leipzig but there are scenarios of that battle that are smaller in size.

Marengo or RBR are a pair of good titles to enter in nap serie from EAW, maybe Leipzig is more played??? but in the type of actions the 2 last nap titles covering the early period are closer to EAW.

Maybe first you can try the demo for nap series, is set in Waterloo but for me could show you the diferences between EAW and Nap serie, for example in Nap serie fire combat for infantry is less critical, you see more melee combat as the decisive action and arty is stronger like cavalry... a good use of arty-cavalry could change a result very fast.

For me the titles released in JTS (with no release in HPS) are better if you search smaller actions covering full battles and Marengo-RBR are all around that kind of actions.

Steve, did you end up buying it yet?

Thanks to all for the input and sound advice. Am pretty much convinced I will give it a try. Looking forward to asking an old hand to do some tutoring for new boot!

Pretty sure RBR is my first choice, through Campaign Bautzen has an attraction in the Swedish-Russian tilt.

Thanks! See you soon!
