JTS Games and XP - Sgt_Rock - 04-28-2018 Guys - got this from Rich Hamilton today: -------------------- XP is completely dropped as of now. All future updates and new games will not support it. John generally doesn't recompile a game when new updates are released, so most installers are several revisions behind the patches available. So if someone is worried about XP they need to grab and archive all the updates now. Its already too late for the PzC series, but all the rest are still XP compatible. -------------------- So this means that any older installer will still install on XP but the updates that come out post-RBR will not work on that OS. You can continue to use older updates "Pre-RBR." (but see below concerning the Panzer Campaign series updates as of late) The entire Panzer Campaign series is now using the "non-XP" updates. The latest Panzer Campaign updates will not work on XP. So if you use XP and dont want to upgrade to Windows 7-10 save your installers and updates for now. When you upgrade your PC or buy a new one you will be able to use anything that comes out from JTS. Hope that clarifies what is going on following the Panzer Campaigns updates and RBR release. As there will be no more updates for JTS games released via HPS Simulations this does not apply to those. If you wanted to use just the HPS version with the latest update they have you still can. You just will have to find opponents that have the older update/installer as well so that you dont have issues with your games. Eventually all XP systems will crash and burn and folks will have to upgrade. I liked XP 64 Pro and miss it. Windows 10 has issues. Other functionality was removed in Win 7, 8 and Vista. Some nice things in Win 10 but the "save folder settings" option has yet to be reintroduced. I guess at one time it was and then removed. Go figure. *** if this post could be made a sticky either here or on the main Black Powder forum it will help avoid folks having to answer this question over and over again. RE: JTS Games and XP - Grengel - 05-05-2018 Quite sad news. I do not support your decision. RE: JTS Games and XP - NicolasBourbaki - 04-28-2021 To my surprise, upgrading from W7 to W10 on my old laptop (it was more a typewritter than a PC) was a great improvment. I didn't want to switch to 10 because I thought that 10 will never run smoothly on such an old laptop but when eventually I was somehow forced to do so (when microsoft stopped suporting 7), I was very pleased with 10 in all terms, and particlarly speed. It was faster than 7 !! Now I have a good PC with 10 but again, on my former old computer, I was very happy to get W10. Maybe could you consider a switch ? |
