7YW: Different VP Values per Nation? - Captain Al - 02-06-2019

During the Kunersdorf scenario, just noticed that the VP rates are not the same for each nation.  For example:

12.5 Austrian/Russian Infantry  = 1 VP

but

8.33 Prussian Infantry = 1 VP

I couldn't find anything in the parameter data or the manual about this.   Did I miss something?

Thanks,
Al

Surely done on purpose just like in the Napoleonic and CW series, there you are also able to set different VP for each sides unit types.
Usually this is isn't mentioned in the briefings.

In Musket & Pike this is set in the oob file and can vary from unit to unit in any army. I think it is in the design notes.

It is not a set value per side, per unit type.

Edited:

Page 11 notes.txt - goes on a couple of pages -vp's per unit is specified directly in the OOB file, which is different than other series. Conceivably different units within a formation as low as a brigade can be rated as having different VPs. It is a difference between the Napoleonic Battles and Musket and Pike engines.

Thanks.  That explains it.  Just never noticed it before.

It's a specific entry that is for each unit in the oob file.

It's set up to reflect a couple different things. Some of it is the simple value of the troops. Cav is much harder to replace, and thus worth more. Heavy Cav is worth a bit more than Light Cav, and so forth.

The Prussians are typically rated a bit more expensive because of their strategic situation. They really could not afford to take 1:1 losses. Prussia was still a relatively small state and somewhat manpower poor. That was complicated by the fact that Frederick wanted to keep as many of his own citizens out of the army as he could, as he wanted them to be economically productive. Thus, they spent most winters sending recruiters all over Germany trying to get people.

ETA: you an always see a unit's VP value if you rightclick on the Unit information card, along with a few other bits of info.
