Does anyone know if any of the JTS games play nicely on Linux ??

Not directly but you cane run them using Wine an open source application that intercepts Window api and converts it to the native api.  I use Crossover from Codewavers that packages Wine with a friendly interface for running JTS games on a Mac.   There is a Crossover version for Linux as well.
