Does range effect direct fire? - dto - 10-14-2020 Is direct fire at a range of 2 hexes or more any less effective than being adjacent to the target? Yes, it is less effective. There is a modifier in the parameter data file that varies from scenario to scenario. Also, your tanks (every unit for that matter) will always use their hard attack when firing at hard targets and soft attack when firing at soft targets. When assaulting, it becomes more complicated as assault strength will be used unless alternative assault resolution has been selected as an optional rule.
