North African holiday?

Hello all

I'm planning a 4 month holiday early next year and option number one (as far as I'm concerned - the CinC would prefer South America or India) is to spend the intial 2 months or so going overland from Cairo to Tunis, popping in at places like El Alamein, Marsa Mutrah, Tobruk, Benghazi and onto Kasserine Pass and Tunis. Then heading to Morrocco via Sardinia and Corsica.

Anyway, I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has been to some of those places, whether or not they are worth a visit (from a historical and holiday point of view), what the conditions are like etc.

It'll be public transport and a backpack the whole way - the budget can't stretch to a guided 5-star tour sadly!
