Its based on the Pike and Shot system but with improvements eg generals and like the former can be played against the AI and Multiplayer (using the Slitherine/Matrix server) for single/historical battles and historical campaigns (against AI). Looks a great game, and covers not just the Japanese but their eastern foes and one feature of Pike and Shot unlike Field of Glory (another multiplayer favourite of mine) is the very good AI which hopefully will also apply to SJ.
One added gem is that the collector's edition includes a campaign of the Mongol attack on Japan from the earlier period. Release date is scheduled for 19 May.

Sengoku Jidai: Shadow of the Shogun on the Slitherine site where there are a number of interesting AARs. You Tube has several video's on it and I highly recommend watching the AAR of the campaign in Korea entitled Sengoku Jidai Beta made by Das Tactic which is already up to 6 videos.
