Help  Setting Global OP Fire For A New Scenario
Hello Gents/Scoundrels/and Mean Old Bastards:


A quick question...mainly aimed at you designers out there...as this one has eluded me for some time now...

My scenarios all start with Global OP fire LONG LONG LONG for everything.
I believe that is the default setting.

I have seen other scenarios that have Global OP fire set "custom" to shorter ranges and it starts the scenario that way right off the bat, Turn 1.

How do you do that?
In the SCN editor?

I have a new one that would benefit greatly from having the OP fire set to more reasonable levels.

Hey Doc Dan,

Here is a notepad clip from one of my scenarios.  You will need to open the scenario with notepad and it should be right close to the top of the file.


The area marked in blue are the controlling numbers for Global OP Fire settings. The first set is Allied and the second set is Axis. Or vice versa this old fart can't remember.
The first 3 numbers in one group going across are Hard Vehicles firing, the second set of three numbers are AT & Hvy AA firing and the last three numbers are Other Firing units.  Right now everything is set to 3 long range. If you change those numbers to 0, 1, 2 it will change the global setting correspondingly to never short or medium range.  Important don't loose the space between each number! 

So the first single number is hard vehicles firing at hard target types (red). The second number is hard vehicles firing at soft vehicles (green) and the third number is hard vehicles firing at other target types (Magenta). 


The next 3 numbers in the line are AT & Hvy AA (Blue) when firing at the same targets in succession as above and the last 3 are for Other firing units (Purple).

So Dan referring to my post above,

With this set of numbers: 3 1 2 2 0 1 1 3 2 as an example,

Armor will fire at armor at long range (3)

Armor will fire at soft vehicles at short range (1)

Armor will fire at other targets at medium range (2)

______________________________________________

AT/AA will fire at armor at medium range (2)

AT/AA will fire at soft vehicles never (0)

AT/AA will fire at other targets at short range (1)

_________________________________________________

Other firing units will fire at armor at short range (1)

Other firing units will fire at soft vehicles at long range (3)

Other firing units will fire at other units at medium range (2)

Hello Mr. John...or is that Dear John...and thanks for getting back to me with this information!
I tend to be a bit hopeless when it comes to files and such but I will give it a try... Pray

In the end, for this scenario I'm currently working on, it may not matter as I have decided it's going to be a foggy morning to start the game.

I mean...San Francisco is famous for it's fog...and I grew up there watching it chill, spray and rust away everything and anything near the coast...so I fogged her up.  It clears quickly and turns into a fine day for shooting.

Fun fact for you...they finished the SF Golden Gate Bridge in 1937...and 4 years later the National Guard would be manning the bridge to protect vs. Japanese invasion!...

They also built some incredible and complex bunkers and pillboxes both North and South of her with twin 16" guns.
Not to mention countless 6" guns, disappearing guns, Long Toms and the like.

So...I thought...why not have the Japanese invade the Bay Area?
Improbable?
Almost certainly.
Fun to model and try?
Again, almost certainly.
