On Foot Infantry
Hello PzC players,

Motorised troops can obtain movement advantages by being placed in the "On foot" status.

Usually motorised troops dismount to attack.

Are there any advantages for dismounted troops in attack or defence in PzC?

thx

RE: On Foot Infantry
No, Just the ability when On Foot to move into any terrain restricted to vehicles that only foot units can move into. The command of going On Foot leaves behind the infantry unit's vehicles. Marshes and swamps without road hex sides is a goo example. Another is have the infantry go On Foot to be ferried across a river by friendly engineers
.
The On Foot infantry temporarily loose the ability to mount their inherent vehicles and move greater distances when On Foot. They need to move into the hex where their HQ is located and stay there until the next friendly turn begins. The Command report at the beginning of the turn will tell you a unit has regained its transport.

The HQ can move to join the On Foot unit or the On Foot unit can march to join the HQ or any combination of movement by both units to meet in the same hex and stay there until the next turn to regain the vehicles for the ON Foot unit. I do not recall if they can gain their transports if the infantry and HQ are isolated. Not sure if isolation affects this function.
Someone else will need to speak to that situation.

IIRC, I once escaped some motorized infantry from isolation and surrender across a river that way, so the game must assume when the unit rendezvous with its HQ, it pulls new vehicles from the unlimited motor pool.

RE: On Foot Infantry
Deployed infantry units may or may not receive an advantage compared to infantry without some form of transport. That depends on the Infantry Defence and Foot Speed values in the "Miscellaneous" part of the parameter data dialog.

Contrary to stats for infantry without some form of transport, the stats in the OOB for infantry with some form of transport indicate values when in T-mode.

The stats when Deployed are universal in the sense that they're used by both sides as they come from the parameter data. Examples of PzC titles where units with some form of transport enjoy a mobility advantage are Moscow '42 and Kharkov '43 (depending on the variant) where Foot Speed is 5 compared to 4 for infantry without some form of transport.

I'm not really sure how refuelling/Low on Fuel checks work when units are On Foot.

Movement advantages when On Foot can be considerable, particularly if ground conditions are anything other than normal and/or you're moving through difficult terrain such as a forest with numerous streams without a bridge. For example: bicycle movement only works well in Normal conditions along roads. Otherwise, it's quite slow.
