Threat from the South -
Comrade Weaselovich from the NKVD was about to leave for Moscow to recommend the local commander for the work camps. Colonel Fubarsky stormed into Weaselovich's quarters after leaving the front an hour ago. He smacked him across the face with his gloves leaving the cowering NKVD man with a slight trickle of blood from his nose.
"I told you never to question my command decisions!" Fubarsky bellowed. "I you ever come near me again I will shoot you before you have a chance to interfere again" As he pointed the newly aquired Luger pulled from the enemy HQ after it been ransacked.
The situation was in much doubt a few hours ago. The Russian T34's and calvary troops were having no success. A slow march through the woods slowed his troopers to a crawl. The goal was to secure the East-West highway and then filter his entire command to west and surround the German dogs. But when the Russians came upon the clearing, an inordinate amount of German 88's and Panzers had cut the Russian force to about one half. Fubarosky was amazed that there was so much enemy present. T34's and T34/85's laid in waste. The fast but ineffecient calvary platoons lay dead or dying.
Suddenly, a radio report came in from the left flank. "Colonel, there is no enemy to the west of us. Only a small platoon of PzII's!!!"
It all made sense. The armor Fubarovich had expected to block the exit hex was in the middle of the battle front. The enemy had not been underestimated, just concentrated. He gave the order to blast that PzII out of the way and it was done. He gave the order that all units on the left flank to speed for the highway exit hex. The Russian units streamed out of sight. The opposing commander Oberst Brickie had left the trap open!!! More good news, newly arrived 300mm rocket launchers. The rockets pulverized the German 88 batteries and bunkered panzergrenadiers. Fubarosky ordered the rest of his armor into the open and the swarmed the German Panzers and tank destroyers. German tanks were exploding like popcorn all over the battlefield. The regular rifle platoons charged ahead of the calvary that had been used as probes and secured the main highway and towns all along the front. Newly arrived Russian Heavy armor blasted away the remnants of the stubborn German tankers that refued to retreat.
Every six minutes or so more Russian platoons streamed to the unopposed left exit hex. Empty trucks, horse carts, officer command vehicles, late arriving infantry that never fired a shot leaving the battlefield unoposed. VICTORY FOR MOTHER RUSSIA. Now, the Germans were in full retreat.
As the NKVD Weaselovich stumbled out of the door, Colonel Fubarsky kicked him in the rear with his boot. "Take that to Moscow instead!"
