RE: Question on Equipment in MBT
TI = thermal imagery. In game terms, it is any unit that has vision 40. The unit is equipped with sights that can detect heat. Below 40 a unit just has infa-red sights and night sights, so smoke will block their vision.
EW = electronic warfare. Used when engaging aircraft and stuff. If you have a SAM with an EW of 1 and a jet comes in with an EW of 5 (highest number) then the jet will have a very good chance of jamming your radar lock. Opposite holds true, if the SAM is 3 and jet is 1 then the jet is in trouble. When buying a/c you should check and see what the sam ability is of your opponent. If his SAM EW is way above your a/c then you would probably be better off not buying, or making sure you don't use your a/c until you locate and suppress or destroy the enemy sams. Or buy a SEAD a/c that will lock on to the sam radar and force him to shut down for the turn of face an ARM missile coming in at him.
VIRSS = smoke discharger that fires when an incoming missile is detected. The smoke has additives that prevent TI from seeing through it.
CIWS = close in weapon system, like the old grenade launchers the Germans had on their tanks in WW2 to sweep the infantry off.
