Redball Military Transport show invades the West End World War II vehicles a big hit
There was an "invasion" of sorts in our area last weekend as military vehicles and equipment rolled into the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert.

There was no cause for alarm or fear, however, as this invasion was welcomed by history buffs and collectors alike.

The force that was responsible for this friendly incursion was an organization named "Redball Military Transport." The event, which includes an annual rally and flea market, is held every year about this time. Vehicles, transport equipment and weapons of all kinds were on display during the three-day run of their rally.

The members of Redball Military Transport collect, restore and show antique military vehicles both for the enjoyment of it and also to remember and honor the members of our Armed Forces, past and present. Their vehicles represent military equipment from 1941 to the present day.

The organization was established in 1992 and takes its name from the WWII supply route known as "The Redball Express." The Redball Express kept Allied troops resupplied as they fought their way across France in 1944 in their attack aimed at the German homeland. Their actions during WWII were a vital contribution to the defeat of Nazi Germany.

When not working on or displaying their vehicles, members of Redball Military Transport participate in parades, reenactments and civic and Veterans events. In addition to their annual September rally, they also host a Winter Swap Meet every February at Memorial Hall on West 10th street in Jim Thorpe.

In addition to seeing living history, some lucky visitors were also treated to free rides in a WWII Halftrack and a small tracked vehicle known as a Weasle.
