German Counterstrike at Krasnoarmeyskoye

South of Kharkov, February 18, 1943: Operating Gallop, aiming for the Sea of Azov, had bogged down in a stalemate at Krasnoarmeyskoye and Slavyansk by February 11. This stalemate helped Manstein prepare his counterattack, part of which is represented here. 2 Panzer and 1 SS Panzergrenadier divisions, with the support of 1 infantry division, are striking back at 4 Soviet tank corps and 3 Rifle divisions. All the units involved are worn down by months of combat. This was the beginning of the counterattack from the south, which historically led to the destruction of the majority of the remaining equipment of the 4 Soviet Tank Corps represented here.
