1776 Virus infected patch?
Hello.  Well, I've been away from playing for close to ten years now, and just this weekend went down into storage and dragged all my old computer wargames out.  I spent most of the day installing and updating my old HPS games and was surprised when I came across the update from HPS for 1776.  I was unable to update it as Norton found a virus in the download.  Has any one else received this message?

Any ideas?  I get a similar error for Eagle Strike.  All my other games are fine.  Just wondering if there's a way to update around this problem or if it's just me and something's off.  Would there be a similar problem with the game if I were to buy it from the John Tiller Store?  Or is this not a real threat and I should just override Norton somehow and let the file go through (not sure how to do that though)?

I would email HPS support and ask them to make sure.

I am no tech however, I'd being willing to guess that you may have a false positive.

Also, since you have HPS titles, make sure you are using HPS updates; don't use JTS updates.

I get the same issues too. Caught me off guard at first, but then I overrode & no issues. Still, check with JTS/HPS. I think the new patches take care of the issue. 1776 has yet to get the new updates.....

Its a code signing issue - so a "false positive". Basically, in the Antivirus world these days you are guilty until proven innocent...

Thanks to for your replies. I've overridden Norton and installed both Eagle Strike and 1776.   Glad to be playing them again.  Thanks for the reassurance.  I suspected that would be the case as I couldn't imagine a virus attached directly to the stores download, but still... you can't be too naïve however if others are using it and there's no issue, I'm okay with it too.  Again thanks!!

Glad to see it worked out. I knew it would, but wanted Rich to come along & say so.

Thanks Rich! :)
