I need to apologize for this long, long over due 2017 ladder medal awarding.

As many of you know at the end of 2017 there was a delay in closing the yearly ladders. At one point we considered reworking the database to close it on the correct date so we delayed awarding the 2017 medals. Eventually it was decided that the effort was to large for the low number of games that were incorrectly logged. In that time I forgot to actually circle back and make the awards. When doing the 2018 awards I noticed the missing 2017.

I apologize for the delay and the confusion around the closing process.

Please also note that ladders are now programmed to end the year automatically so this problem should not occur again.

Something to suggest from this end? After winning this, or these awards 1, 2 times? Maybe declare said person ineligible for a year or 2?

I hear ya but I'm not sure now that really would feel. While it is true for the Top Score award it is nearly comes down to he who plays the most wins (unless there are bunch of players who play a similar amount). The ELO score focuses much more on wining but even then someone with a good win rate and double the games still gets an edge.

But if you exclude someone who won last year is that really fair? If they are a good player or perhaps the best why shouldn't they win?

You are very gracious but I think we would need to hear a lot more people requesting that before it would even be considered. Even then I would be a no vote :) not that I get any final say :)
