RE: Aachen - West Wall Battle
At this level, should be Battalion sized at minimum.

Yes, that's for sure, I need more reinforcements to help out with that assault!

My bad. I meant scenario size for Cold War.

Oh!! Yes!!
Definitely a battalion or reinforced battalion for scenario size... at least.

RE: Aachen - West Wall Battle
It was an intense session, with some good progress on both the flanks. The city fighting is grinding down though, as we didn't make a lot of progress into Aachen this turn. Block by block we're scrapping in the city, but I have reinforcements coming on the outskirts, hopefully that will turn the tide. Panthers have been spotted advancing to the front in the south, so that is a whole new ball of wax I will have to deal with. It will be interesting to see how well the Jackson's can do against the tanks, even though some Panzer IV's nailed a few this turn. Ugh. Positive vibes!

RE: Aachen - West Wall Battle
We went over some news for the latest Campaign Series games and offered a reminder about the Cold War survey. Please take a moment to fill it out if you're interested, we really want to make the game for you! We dove back into Aachen with some intense city fighting, making progress in some sectors and being held back in other. What a pain in the rear. We engaged some Panthers for the first time with some relative success and continued to clean out the Aachen Municipal Forest. Once we do that, it will release a bunch of troops to send to the south of Aachen and fill in the gap where German reinforcements appear to be coming from. Onward!

RE: Aachen - West Wall Battle
Hello Jason:
Keep plugging away man!
Remember if you lose this it's because you made the AI too good...;)
All your fault Jason...
(that is a trio of scenario designers disavowing any knowledge not to mention responsibility...me myself and I.)
This map actually borders on the Hurtgen Forest, which, of course, is a horse (and a hurt) of a different color.
The Aachen Municipal was a well maintained park and outdoor area. Despite it's proximity to the Hurtgen, it's easier, relatively speaking.
It can still hide a Panther...;)
Regards,
Dan

RE: Aachen - West Wall Battle
I have to admit, that was the worst trying to kill those tank companies in the forest. *laughs* Absolutely brutal.
But success!! YAY!
It will be nice to finally clear that forest.
I remember reading about the Hurtgen forest many moons ago, it was a dastardly affair indeed.

RE: Aachen - West Wall Battle
Everyone was starting to use those downwards proximity fuses, and indirect artillery was getting more and more deadly late war.
In the Hürtgenwald there was no place to hide, once the air bursts denuded all the foliage and turned the forest into a sea of burnt toothpicks.
The Yanks suffered ~ 45,000 casualties during the Hürtgenwald affair, which never really ended.
Wacht Am Rhein was what ended it.
Kind of "upstaged" it.
The poor GI's must have been happy to bleed somewhere else besides that damnable forest...(cue up Monte Python's "look on the bright side of life")

RE: Aachen - West Wall Battle
The Campaign Series Vietnam 2.00 UPDATE has been officially released! I explained a few things about it to help those that haven't installed it yet. Also a quick reminder about the Cold War Survey before we dove back into the Aachen scenario. This time it was mostly about city fighting and I went through a number of techniques of making a good go of it. We are up to 60% of Aachen captured and have been able to consolidate some forces. We were also quite fortunate in the south and managed the destruction of some Panthers and Panzer IV's that was threatening our advance. Only 29 more turns to go... Onward!
