The problem with tournaments
I have the greatest respect for tournament directors and hope to see more and more tournaments run in the near future.

However, after the honeymoon, many seem to just drag on forever or die a slow death.

I believe the reason is because the scenario's are too large/complicated and take forever to complete.

A successful and enjoyable tournament requires commited participants, much like a successful team game.

To keep those participants interested in the tournament it requires a reasonably short turn-around between games and a tournament manager with an iron hand.

Smedley is managing a tournament with some small(er) scenario's and I expect it to remain viable because of that fact.

6 rounds will still take a year, but I've played team games that have lasted that long????????????

I know about how many games of a given size I can play and maintain a reasonable turn around rate. I am playing in a tournament wherein each player has two games at one time. When I finish my games, I don't know whether to look for another game or two or wait unitl the next round starts. In this particular case, I've been waiting 4 months for the next round to start :hissy:

Just an opinion and that's what this site is about :)

Give a man fire and he'll be warm for a day.
Light a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

RE: The problem with tournaments
I have learned a few things since my last tourney! This one will move along quickly, I hope!! The beauty of this one is, each round is independent of the outcome of the previous round. If one or two games get delayed the rest of the group can move to the next round. The scenarios are small and should be easy to complete in two months. Real life can interrupt the flow and we have to make allowances for the issues which come up. However, I expect that each member that signs up will understand this is a long term commitment.

Oh by the way, I am still waiting on confirmation emails..............

and another thing.........has anyone heard from Remko?....I emailed him a while back and have not received a reply
