MOGILEV, Russia (south of Orsha) 16 July 1941

While intense fighting goes on at Mogilev
3.Panzer Division skirts south of the town and forces a crossing of the Dnieper.
Driving northeast, behind the town to cut it off from reinforcements and supplies.
172.Rifle Division holds Mogilev and has a rear guard picket.
The Battle for Mogilev is only beginning, it will go on until September.
Guderian will lose 150+ tanks in the days, weeks and months that follow in this battle.

Note: Mogilev was the final capital of Czarist Russia until Nicholas was murdered.
A possible reason why the 172.Rifle Division made such an extraordinary stand here.

The battles for Mogilev and Smolensk will mark the end of the German Barbarossa Campaign by September.
