Recommendation for Game to Buy

Hello:

Thinking of getting into the series but still a bit intimidated with the size of these games in number of units, amount of time to do a turn, etc.

Can you recommend what you think is the easiest of the PzC games to get into for a beginner to operational games (not the North Africa games for the moment though).

Also, for your choice, can you recommend a good book on the campaign that is reasonably easy to read.

Sure I can get You an already thoroughly tested method of how I have gotten myself sucked fully here;

1. Read Cornelius Ryan's "A Bridge too Far" - the book reads itself.

2. Buy HPS PC "Market-Garden '44" and play it out as You read.

... and since You have already engaged at SB tactical level I am not promoting HPS SB "Dien Bien Phu" and B.B. Fall's "Street Without Joy" then, but ceratinly deem both worthy giving that a go along with Windrow's "The Last Valley".

Don't start with Glantz's "Barbarossa Derailed ..." and HPS PC Smolensk '41 though - first You need to start being a hard core wargamer to develop a taste for both, but once You are there's neither way nor point to stop at any place.

Enjoy, You'll love all of it unless You're a fake and since we meet here the odds are You're definitely not, by no means.Good luck with that and report back the results,please - not necessarily on completion, but any time You feel like.

In case you are not aware every title has a range of scenarios varying in unit numbers, size of map and turns, the smallest scenarios may have only twenty units on a fifteen hex square map and last six turns and can be played in a single hour.

Every title also uses the same rules, so there are no old or new titles in that respect.

So no matter which title you pick there is no need to get overwhelmed by the sheer size of some scenarios, you can play the small scenarios until you understand the game system and then if you wish move onto something slightly larger. ;)

The best rule of thumb is to pick a title that covers a campaign you are interested in, there are so many now that there will always be a title that catches your eye. :)
