FWWC Grand Campaign

I was reading http://www.wargamer.com/articles/the-kai...stern-war/  and they made a reference to the,  "The World War I Campaign Series system comes together with the Grand Campaign Scenario Progression Tree" in the article.  So I looked it up in the, "Designer Notes: France ‘14".


"The "Grand Campaign" is a series of scenarios that are intended to be played in sequence, with the result of each deciding which scenario to play next and, eventually, collectively deciding the outcome of the war. All Grand Campaign scenarios are intended to be played as head-to-head with another player (or as a team game with a group of players)."

Looks like it would be a Monster but interesting.  Maybe a team game, if you had some dependable  teammates and opponents.



Was just wondering has anyone attempted this?

Yes, myself and a few other play-testers are in the midst of one now. We played the west front first and both sides have strategic options. It seems like the historical option is the only one that can make sense for both sides especially for the German; for to leave East Prussia naked is suicide. The French have options but Joffre's historical deployments are very effective especially if you want to go on the offensive and try for an early victory; and make no mistake about it with 11 infantry assault values and 75mm rapid field guns the French Army is a worthy foe. The attack by the Germans through Liege is very complicated as it means marching two huge armies through Belgium, building them bridges and having to figure out how to get there first with the most; no easy task. The BEF side also has the option of appearing at the Mons position on the 21st or else marching on after landing on the coast: I would recommend marching on. I didn't appreciate how fast German 1st Army could move and I got the Belgian Army wiped out but it doesn't have to be that way: the French need to be flexible and assist the Belgians if German 2nd Army moves against them. We Allies took a minor loss after 100 turns and moved on to East Prussia as both sides chose historical deployments. This team-game consists of two Allied players and four Germans and all the players are really committed and sometimes exchange a turn every day or mostly one turn every two days. This is the only way to complete the monster; one turn per week isn't going to get it done. jonny
