Hey Scud

RE: Hey Scud
I think after all that has gone on and, as Hawk said, a lot of fence mending has been done by members, I feel the majority of members would accept the decisions of the moderators as being final.
I still feel however, that my earlier suggestions would help the members to 'run-along' with the mods feelings rather than through fear of a big footcoming down on them at any moment?

Glint

RE: Hey Scud
Eric,
The difficulty in laying out clear lines comes from the diversity of the house. As you said, what is to me, isn't to you, there have been several examples of how to post offered however.
IE: Wait 10 minutes before posting, wait a day before replying, is this the way you would tell your boss he is wrong, do you speak to your family members in this manner, imagine your mother reading the reply... There are many methods to cool off, there is little self constraint in the heat of the moment.

Vanilla posting is exceptionally hard to do in a method to get the readers to smile and keep their interests, but getting the point across doesn't mean needing to pistol whip everyone with Repetitious sarcastic or anal retorts that infuriate.

This is what the members want stopped, and that's where it all falls into place. This is what all of the Moderators are being asked to do and want to stop.

RE: Hey Scud
I've always been a fan of simple, tried and true moderation.

The rules have NEVER been vague and are not currently. The rules are that the Ladder Commander makes the Rules. Which means you do what he asks or you lose your membership for a while or forever. That's as clear and unambiguous as can be.

So, when the Moderator PMs, emails, or posts on a thread that something should be toned down, deleted, avoided, etc etc etc. That's what you do. If you don't heed the warning, you take a break. It really is that simple in my mind.

So, you posts your posts, and you takes your chances. If Scud or Toni see something they don't like they'll let you know. When they do that you ignore it at the risk of your privileges here. Nothing earth shattering there really, and in fact, it's how the Moderators have always acted. It just seems that every once in a while a member who gets a warning/suspension/ban wants to debate it like it's a legal process in a court of law. It's not. It's the Ladder Commanders Forum and they set the tone, everyone else follows that lead or leaves. If the Moderator is being abusive with that authority it is up to the folks they report to deal with it, or not, as they deem appropriate.

Good Gaming;

Paul

RE: Hey Scud
While this game has been in full swing [/i]development for the past few years since Matrix took over, unfortunately literally nothing has come out of this MB to constructively support that development. The level of discussion has degenerated to some dubious noises mainly because a few individuals have basically made all serious discussion impossible by thinking that all arguments are decided by the number of words used, regardless of their contents.

Heard some nice words about olive branches here but we are still nowhere near the MB I was introduced to in 2003 by Jim Puff and Don Fox. A community that managed to develop a fantastic add-on cd etc and could make a difference. In fact the CS MB at the Blitz was CS at that time.

I don't know if the moderators are interested in such longer term processes or if the clubowner even cares. IMO they should.
In the meantime I completely lost interest in whatever is being said here, nor do I often see posts by other developers here. This board has seemed to have discussed with itself too long in a very primitive way and in the process made itself irrelevant.
I don't enjoy the game anymore and have finished my last game today but if others still enjoy the game, they deserve a better MB. It's up to themselves to improve the level of discussion and up to the moderators to take out the rotten apples, which they have failed to do until now.

RE: Hey Scud
Huib,

I understand your concern. It is very much my concern. I think if everyone takes up the Olive Branch and does so with respect that we will return to where we need to be in terms of discussion.

I've already observed a nice trend as of late. That doesn't mean perfection or there won't be bumps. However, I think we are on the right trajectory as we seem to all be sitting down and discussing things fairly reasonable at the moment from my perspective...

Jim

RE: Hey Scud
I have an idea....

Have 1 thread where you can bitch & whine all you want, but you have to post on the same thread.

This allows everyone a space to rant yet we can look at new posts for all the other stimulating conversation.

and to fix our fed govt we could spend more money that we have, establish tax rules so all our jobs go overseas, & create more govt programs than we can not afford

yeah , another dumb ass idea via yours truly! :stir:

RE: Hey Scud
I think we all need to realise there has been a big problem within the Blitz here of late and past.
Some of us are trying to get the new rules brought into a reasonable perspective and, the mods have allowed a debate to take place on the subject.
Way back I said, my concern was the number of people that would be put-off entering into any debate in here, due to the actions of some.
An olive branch has been offered and since then, as JvK said, the trajectory is going in the right direction.
All members have a chance now to debate in this thread for the better. Grab hold of the chance and be heard. Be frank and get it off your chests, whilst being respectful. No good complaining about the new rules and allowing the mods to take a firm ground on the matter, if you ain't got the gumption to talk about it positively and perhaps by doing so, possibly bring back the missing fraternity that used to offer so much to the Blitz and get the mods on your side?

Whoops, looks like the post I was responding to didn't get included. Ha, that was in response to "Can't we all just get along"... the famous Rodney King quote. And I prefer a good tasering to a beat down any day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPENzKOmOl0

Absolutely. Can't agree more.

Huib, I'm very sorry to see you go buddy. The bad thing about being one of the old timers is how we keep getting fewer. Take a break from it, revisit at a later date. Always willing to be your opponent.
