Aint gonna hurt nobody!
Round 2 of Pacific Twilight in underway and after a month over half of the games are over, so far the Japanese are still moving but have some brave Allied players have managed to slow them down (and in one case stop them in their tracks - eh Chris?).

But many allied players are still finding the Japanese infantryman a tough nut to crack, with their ability to rally back almost imediately and charge back into the battle, untill destroyed, which is in fact very close to the historical reality, you either kill them or they overrun you, their is little retreat.

anyway, this post is for any players of SP to psot any information they hae on how to stop the Jap infantryman in his tracks. Whats the best way? what are the best weapons? and how about on the attack?

I have played the japs lots and I find them tough, they really are great troops, but as some players have already pointed out susceptable to arty fire, massed fire, and well du in weapons, tanks included.

But if any Tounament players, Jap or Allied want to give their advice please do so, whats your way of stopping them, or how to use them well? Any other players also feel free to comment on this little used and not so well understood fighting force.

:)

I have always just found that pounding them until destroyed is about all you can do. Try not to let them get close enough to assault you, and once you pin them keep shooting.

I do find their fire power seems to be a bit much. From what I know of their weapons and lmgs, they were not that good. However, I don't know a lot about it though.

I must take this (rare Big Grin ) occasion to agree with Chris (Chris, pardon my weird sense of humour).
Keep them at bay with long and medium range fire, also mortar them as much as you can.
And, obviuosly, get the job done - kill or they will come back again and again.

Ok i have the perfect stradegy for beating the japanese.

In the 2 games i have fought them in the PT tournament, I have played a couple of turns in each round, and they have run in fright from the mighty 2nd New Zealand Division.:smg:

So my AAR's are not very long.

Japs seen......Japs seen running away...Kiwis left to swim by the shore.

Dan give me General SP as my round 3 opponent. What do you reckon Gary.

But..hehe..no doubt..heavy arty fire is the biggest concern..

Well, I haven't played much against the Japanese except vs the AI.. so for what ever my opinion might be worth.. the more fire power, the better.. as you do have to KIA the whole squad otherwise the last standing will still keep coming..

Japanse troops usually are not well equipped to handle armored vehicles of any kind - even lightly armored HT's.. so perhaps the best thing you can use against raging Japanese are SPAA's.. I vote for the M15.. you get two killing shots with each firing round.. the 37mm auto cannon, then the twin .5o cal mg's.. another one that is useful are LVT's armed with multiple MG's. M3 scout cars are also helpful.. but be careful, I've run into some OOB's that have the scout car, and no ammo for the other 2 MG's

pretty decent ammo supply, and if you have 1 per platoon of grunts it's better than having an entire platoon of mg's.. the grunts keep the enemy at bay, and the SPAA can hose things down nicely..

If Japanse tanks show up.. the 37mm has enough punch to take care of them.. but a pair of Shermans per rifle company is helpful..

In my first PT game my Stuarts ( I am Anzac) got their asses handed to them by the Jap tanks. I could not go toe to toe with them at all. I was out gunned all the way.

In the second battle my Lee and Crusader tanks also took a pounding from range.

Bad luck?

I'm with Chris, nothing I have put into the field stands up to the jap troops. My stuarts vaporised in this last game and my sherman crews were completely inept. The only weapons they did any good were my bunkers. and I only bought two of them and they killed way out of proportion to what I spent on them. My marine infantry with their garand semi aut rifles were constanly out shot and out fought wherever they came up agains jap inf OR CALVARY. their horses must be made of steel also. I was lucky to get away with a draw in this last game.

Yeah, the ponies were tough hombres aren't they. Should be easy slaughter on top of a horse, I know German ponies are.

I've only fought the Japanese against the AI,but I have found that Artillery is the best medicine to cure this problem. 105mm and 155mm work wonders.

I have'nt had the armor problem. My Stuarts and Shermans do quite well against Japanese armor. Flamethrower Armor works very well on the Japanese Infantry tooBig Grin
