Well the German onslaught slows as the wily Ed(jeepster)moves his IS'2 into cover with roads for a quick shoot and scoot.Not to worry the German meatgrinder will advance pitting Krupp steel against Stalin's iron coffin's.Strangely after 8 turns no armour losses yet for both sides.Germans control most of the hexes after herioc work from my now dead scout units but the mean machines are now in place.Stalin directive 236/a hide and seek but hide or those nasty German monsters will catch you.Should be a bloodbath in the next few turns.

Turn 14

"Ok boys, we have to clear Weyer of the remaining Amis armor! This should be a simple task." Fritz was in a better mood. The Panther moved up and soon spotted the target, some light tanks. "Fire away!", ordered Fritz. Small arms fire and a bazooka round glanced off the Panthers thick armor as Gunther took aim. The cannon roared, but the round missed it's mark.
"What is wrong with you, man!" That was a easy kill! Let's back off."

Two Panthers from another platoon moved up and took out the light tanks with ease. Fritz's radio crackled, "Why do we always have to clean up after you, Fritz?", joked the platoons commander.

Gen. Beyerlein remembered his last health check, three months ago.
The Stabsarzt was concerned about the fast changes of the gerneral's mood.
Indeed, so Beyerlein thought, his feelings really rapidly change from euphoria into deep depression.
At the moment, he felt as down as can be.
He reviewed his force and what he saw was not sufficient to make him happy.
The Yankees wiped out a number of his few remaining Panzers, the Panzergrenadier platoons had only squad strength and his front line had more holes than his socks.
What to do?
First of all, the attack on Rauwiller had to be stopped. Otherwise, this bonemill would have devoured all of his last units of some strength.
Verdun, just like Verdun...
Perhaps those little red pills he got from Reichsmarschall Goering may help?

The retreat from Rauwiller turned into an orderless flight.
The allied tanks were on the heels of the disrupted and paniced Landsers.
The german soldiers were running for their lifes.
All available men had to be gathered to stabilize the german lines.
But where? Will a counterattack at an unexpected location be the solution?
And, most important, why is General Beyerlein hearing those strange voices?
Only questions and no answers.

Turn 15

From about 1km, Fritz and his crew watched the battle of Weyer rage. The losses on both sides were heavy. Artillery fell, small arms fire rang, flak panzers wailed away at the stubborn Amis. Finally, it seemed the defenders had enough.

"Lets go round them up." said Fritz. Three Panthers rolled into Weyer from the north east, while three Lynx and some flammthrowing halftracks came from the southwest. Not a shot was fired. The brave defenders waved the white flag and surrendered.

The crew exchanged some schnapps for American cigarettes. Willi, the driver, went looking for souvaneers, and soon came back with a Thompson sub-machine gun.

"Look at me! I'm a gangster!" he yelled. "Ya, it is Machinegun Willi!" laughed Fritz.

Kirrberg is back in allied control again. Units moving up the lines in hopes of cutting off retreating Landsers and trap as many as possible in pocket.

Speed is needed now and time is running out.

With the fall of Weyer, the Americans decided they had enough, and withdrew from the field. It had been a hard fought battle. Many of the German panzer troops had thier baptism of fire.

Fritz and the crew would enjoy the fruits of victory. Schnapps and American cigarettes made for a nice celebration. They went on to fight in the Ardennes offensive. But that is another story.........
