RE: What is a good WinSPMBT set up?
I'm sure everybody on this site as a different idea. They are all correct.
MBT covers over 50 years of mechanized warfare. I think there are about 70 countries or so. A LOT. Then the cost of the units is affected by the experience levels of the coutry you are using.
I would suggest trying out the canned scenarios and making a note the unit density on one of those you like playing. That will give you a rough idea of what you like for that combo of nations at that period in time.
I use the tables out of the back of the TacOps manual. TO uses about the same points per unit as SP does ( with an avergae rating of 70 ibetween 1960 and 1980). It list formations by units and point costs. Then there is the other way. I take the number of hexes on the map and divide by two. That gives about a medium battle for the 60's thru the 80's. The problem here is that my medium battle might not be anywhere close to your 's. I figure about 200 units is medium. Say, 150 to 150.
The limit on points wa just raided to 65,000 so some might consider medium around 30,000 In a mid 50's battle you are looking at a division or so. The game really isn't suited for anything beyond a Brigade. It can be done and some do it, by the idea of moving thousands of units one at a time leaves me cold. I'm not even sure what the max unit count is nowdays. I find the game bogs down when you get past 300 units or so. It's not a matter of clock cycles, but keeping track what all those units are doing. If you are yound enough to keep all that in control, you're young enough to be down at the local suds shop chasing fat girls.
As much fun as SP is, it still doesn't beat a fat girl and a 10Lb bag of flour.
