General

Yup,, total war sounds good.

Limmited air recon.. I believe it could have been done.
Reaction times exist. But nato dont like it..

Artillery set-up. Always an issue. Can only really go by what
rules i always chose in games. And i always choose artillery setup.
In war, effective fire, even in the 80's requires some 'settling in'.
Computer direction and GPS in the 90's onwards finally over-
comes this.

Remember this is just my 2cents

General Musashi"Khan"

you have had a good idea for the division...

and for the rules I'd just give my point of view
you can do what you want ...the rules are the same for all...

And do you want a history?
Here is map i made for last game.

Should suffice.
Yes. its missing some of denmark and berlin.
But i spent a LONG time making it. It's a rebuild.
Most of the cities/roads/rivers are mouse drawn.

If I may kibitz, I think you guys should talk about acceptable uses of helicopter units. I think there are a lot of gamey ways to use these units (blocking roads and retreat paths for example) but I'm not an expert on helicopter annoyances -- I just remember being annoyed!

Perhaps others can chime in with things that should be outlawed by house rule...

RE: Germany 2 anyone?
Helo abuse....[mmmmm yum]

If helo 'a' moves into and out of one of my units' zocs more than once
That is helo abuse.
Using up defencive fires with such tactics is abuse of turn based system
Does not add up in time/combat/movement equation.

If helo 'b' 'c' and 'd' then move into/out of same units zoc in series
that is abuse, an obvious 'dancing helo' tactic as opponent knows where
unit is.
If helos b c and d fire while in zoc...well, its all then indicative.

As for blocking retreat
If i were in company engaged in overwatch retreat and turned to find
Mil24 hovering over treeline in rear. I'd stick nose in dirt.

As i will do a 'history' of this conflict.
Any such overtly gamey actions will be reported in text.
ie: M1's of Co A spent so much time firing at helo's popping up on
flanks they had no time left to shoot at 30 t72's advancing directly at them after their allocated reaction time was stolen.

;)

RE: Germany 2 anyone?
Musashi -

The ZOC dancing tactic - understood and will encourage Soviet side to avoid such.

However, it wasn't clear from your comment whether helos blocking retreat paths are gamey. Please advise since we definitely want a fun game with minimal heartburn for anyone.
