No actually Nort....the pedestal for a Vickers MMG carrier is in the middle over the engine compartment. The one in your pic is, I think, a homemade jobbie...the kiwis in the desert stuck all sorts of things on their bren carriers, worked their way up to 2pdrs and captured Italian 20mm guns...I bet the Aussies were just as bad and so, obviously, were the boys in yer photo.

I'll see if I can find a piccy.

That's an ATR carrier....early war thingy to get some mobile AT capacity. The BOYES AT rifle is the long thing at the front.

It does look to have the pedestal right tho, so perhaps it doubles as an MMG carrier. Good find!

Ivan -I take exception to your use of the term ATR Carrier -no such thing. It is a UNIVERSAL Carrier, because it could carry various stuff in service at the time. Colloquically always known as a Bren carrier, as the Bren gun was its usual armament.. Still in Navy service (gun, not vehicle)when I first jouined in '64 -lovely thing to fire.

BTW-BOYS not BOYES. Named after a CAPT Boys, who was on the design commitee, unfortunately died before it entered service (37/38)

Cheers

I reckon it was called an ATR Carrier for the same reason a Bren armed Carrier was called a Bren Carrier :p

I stand corrected on the Boys Rifle.

OK, I can't believe I read it either but the question remains, can I use them to assault with? LOL
Assault acourding to Webster:

b : a military attack usually involving direct combat with enemy forces c : a concerted effort (as to reach a goal or defeat an adversary)
