RE: Matxer's SPMBT Tips
very good!
2 small points;
Off map vs On map arty. Off map can always shoot at on map, while on map can NEVER shoot at off map. Not a critical point, but something to keep in mind.
Loading units back into a vehicle. I don't see this as being 'gamey'. Suppression is a measurement of the fear or threat that a unit is facing. If getting back in a vehicle makes a unit safer, shouldn't the suppression level reflect that? Since the supression of the vehicle is based on threats to the vehicle crew, which might NOT always be the same as threats to the infantry unit, shouldn't a unit in the vehicle have the same suppression level as the crew of that vehicle? After all, it's not the APC that feels fear or feels threatened. As long as the MP's are adjusted to show the passage of the time it takes for the infantry unit to re-mount, I don't see what is 'gamey' about it.

RE: Matxer's SPMBT Tips
Thank you.

You're certainly right.
But even unsuppressed infantry can be load / unload. It gains one more shot, fires it. Then again loaded / unloaded. Gains a second shot !

Excellent post Mat, a lot of help to a newbie like me ;) I've got a question concerning picking the battle parameters, how many points do you usually go for to make a medium sized game? This figure must vary from decade to decade as the kit becomes more expensive , but by how much?

Good job, I have added it to the game guides.

I have also awarded you the Blitz Achievement Medal- Bronze for your efforts on the SP community behalf.

Cheers.

Fubar, thank you. Actually I didn't type out directly on in the post. I used Word, whose doc is attached.

Peek, thank you. Good point, I'll add a section about this subject in the next version.
I believe small forces are more challenging because it requires you to buy really what is necessary. However, many players prefer medium to big battles. Also, it depends on the number of air sorties.
Roughly, I would suggest the following:
Year Points
1950 2500-3000
1960 3000-4000
1970 4000-6000
1980 6000-8000
1990 8000-12000
2000+ 15000

Weasel, thank you very much for the medal, that's very nice.

That is a bug. Since the number of shots available is determined in part by the suppression level, it can be rationalized, which still doesn't make it right.
What needs to be done is if a leg unit loads and unloads in the same turn it should get supression added. That would pretty much cure the problem, plus be 'realistic' in that the troops feel safer because they are in a vehicle so getting out of that vehicle should make them lose the advantage of being in the vehicle. That sort of change might be beyond the capabilities of the code.

RE: Matxer's SPMBT Tips
A leg unit using the load/unload trick will gain 1 shot, not 2. But not always. I'd have to check in detail but it has to do with the differential in nr of shots for the leg unit and the nr of shots for the APC (and how many move points were expended but that's linked to nr of shots).
