Uncrewed artillery question.

Uncrewed artillery question.
Unfortunately I overran an enemy battery instead of meleeing it, and destroying it. Now it is uncrewed. Can I destroy the guns eventually and add the guns to my VP total? Or do they just sit there uncrewed for the whole game, waiting for the enemy to re-capture them? In any case it's a problem that I shouldn't have considering my charge was victorious. The rules don't clarify the issue. Thanks, von ege

RE: Uncrewed artillery question.
You can definitly destroy it with your infantry. I don't understand too why batteries are uncrewed sometimes instead of being destroyed

RE: Uncrewed artillery question.
Thanks Cobra. My next turn came up and I meleed and captured the uncrewed batteries with a lowly skirmish co. As for over-running batteries, the reason why it would be good, and this must be advanced wargaming technique, is because the cavalry would not be disordered by the over-run. Let's say there are cavalry or infantry behind the guns: over-run them, don't disorder losing impetus, then attack the regular units at full strength! Then infantry can move up and capture the guns. Nice attack if you can pull it off! von ege :P

I think it could be interesting for infantry to be able to capture it and so guns could be used again. I suppose, but i'm not an expert, that happened in reality.

I say, and have been saying it for a decade:
Lets say the cav overruns the guns, and bops into infantry in square, with the gun crew protected within. It makes a losing charge, gets disordered, then is routed out of there and charged by conveniently placed reserve enemy cav. The arty crew recrews the guns and the guns give them a blast next turn.

Such did happen, but cannot be recreated in the game system as it now exists. This charge guns "poof they're gone" BS is something I've never liked.
