No File Save
One of my opponents checked "No File Save" in a game of M41. After playing his file, I played the file from my other M41 game, and suddenly found file saving disabled there as well. I don't think my second opponent selected this setting because we have played numerous games without it. Is it possible, if one file is played with this setting and then another without closing the game down first, that the setting just carrries over? :conf:

RE: No File Save
To clarify, in *my* M41 game, "No File Save" is *not* enabled.

RE: No File Save
Thanks, Ricky.
Wouldn't it be more useful if this rule were a simple optional rule set when starting a new battle rather than a global setting of the game software? I have suddenly become really scared by the very real possibility that my opponent or I should accidentally "infect" a huge campaign file with 100 more turns to go with "No File Save". There is no way I can play a B44 campaign turn in one session.

RE: No File Save
The no file save setting does not affect other games, just scenarios in the same game where the setting is on. Your M41 game should not "infect" a B44 game. You would have to really work hard to make such a problem occur....by having both games open at the same time.
As long as you close any game where the no file save setting is on before proceeding to any other scenario, you will be safe.

Sure - sounds easy to say - much harder apparently to develop.
FWIW, this whole option was developed by John Tiller, almost under protest. He didn't like the idea and he only did it because a number of Blitz players came to me and said - "look - we do this and disable the ability to keep players from cheating or they won't support the series any longer."
...so John reacted to the customer base.
One more point on something Dog Soldier said about closing the game and opening it again before you start a different BTL file with the same game - this also clears out the memory and prevents PBEM replays from becoming corrupted.

Thanks, Glenn. I'll make sure I do that. I am just glad this happened with such a small game.
Dog Soldier: Thanks, I know M41 won't "infect" B44. But it could just as well happened with a B44 game or any other huge campaign game, and that thought sort of scared me.

RE: No File Save
This may be overdoing things a bit, but I alwys make a point to check the settings before a PBEM game. Never say never, bit I almost never use the "No File Save" settings. With kids & a wife that always has "one more thing" for me to do around the house it's just not realistic.

RE: No File Save
Al,
For regular day to day gaming, I would say most of the community feels as you do. For tournaments, it is usually expected to use the File No Save.option. I know I forget to use it in some tournaments, and I don't even bother when the tournament game is against another member I have played before and know I can trust.
That is a pretty long list of quality folks.
