World Cup Rugby

RE: World Cup Rugby
Fiji v S.Africa was a good game, perhaps not quite as exciting as those played yesterday but there was some good play by the Fijians in second putting the two tries on the Boks in two minutes when they only had 14 men on the field Eek

I would love to hear what the newspapers are saying in Australia and NZ :stir:

Should be a good game tonight also, both sides looking to cause another upset :)

So it's S.Africa and Argentina in the second semi final. Not a thrilling match tonight, Scotland should have run the ball far more at pace and that would have opend the game up for them.

Next weekends games though will be great

The general reaction in NZ is irritation at the All Blacks tactics and the referee/touch judges coupled with MASSIVE praise for the French effort. Good for the French team....hope they go all the way.

Yep, looking forward to it myself, out tomorrow with the boys on town to watch it in a pub as it's a late kick off.

The final next weekend should be good Argentina v France :stir:

When are S.Africa, NZ and the Aussies going to let the Pumas in the tri nations then ? make the competition more exciting

Hi, Phil.

Well, before reach the final, France will have to beat this surprising good english team. I am worried about this Johnny Wilkinson...
But we have our bulldozer (Chabal) to counter all their attacks !
I am sure it will be a real intense match.
I think that South Africa have a best strategic game than Argentina, but argentina has a great defense, so let's see. All is possible !

regards.
Hubert

It's an interesting question and one that SA/NZ/Aussie have looked at more than once. The major problem is that nearly all the Puma players are contracted to European clubs and don't necessarily have a right to be released for a new set of international commitments over and above existing games.

The same problem occurs in proposals to put say a couple of Argentinian teams into the Super 14....no professional players left in the country. The writers taking cheap shots at the southern unions about it generally haven't looked any deeper into it than the chips on their shoulders.

Got to do something though, because I can assure you that we in SA/NZ/Aussie are mightily bored with the Tri-Nations and have been for years.

I did read an article that the tri nation team are contracted until 2010, after that a new contract will we worked out and then Argentina could be allowed to play.
I see the problem though with the players, let's hope that after their world cup glory the sport will develop within their own country so that it will be self supporting.
