Hello fellow WinSPWWII and MBT players.
Again I seek the knowledge of the more experienced players...

I have noticed in my battles that when soft vehicles get shot at you often get crew/passanger killed.
Two questions...

1) is it possible to "kill" a soft vehicle by killing everyone on board without actually causing it to blow up? (I think it happened to me once, long ago, but I may not have had all the WWII patches back then. )
What allways seems to happen is that when you kill the last crew man the vehicle explodes...

2) When a truck carrying a section of infantry blows up, there is usually only one or two casualties. Even when the truck blows up on the first shot (i.e., no time for passangers to bail out).
I find this a bit too kind, as I guess if you hit a truck with a rocket and it explodes all passangers would turn to mince meat...
Are the kill routines really too kind or am I missing something?

Thanks

Yes, you found one of my pet peeves with SP. If the vehicle is soft you can't kill it outright, you must shoot the driver, passenger, mechanic, fuel lines, coolant lines, horn button etc...DAMN FRUSTRATING! When a truck can take a tank round and say "oh you killed my co-driver" well I have a problem. Then you will have those that say, well maybe the rounds went through the soft tarp on the back instead of just saying it is BS.

Snipers seem to be very lethal against trucks. Must hit the horn button with that first shot. It's actually better now. At least the passengers that do get out have suppression. I can remember back when the passengers would bail out ready to go after Tigers with their P-38's. For you youngsters a P-38 is a opener, can, one. You needed it to open your C rations. I don't know if the P-38 was phased out when 'C' rations were replaced, Prolly not. If the factory was in a district with a powerful congresscritter, no chance. I'll ask my Nephew, he's in A school now, so he might remember being issued a funny looking piece of metal that had no obvious purpose.

Damn Grumbler I haven't thought about a P38 in 20 years  The darn things did serve their purpose though. ;)

I wonder how many of those little suckers can still be found laying around the German countryside :chin: ;)

Obviously, it is possible to kill a soft vehicle with the first shot.
I have done so with AT guns, rockets, mguns, rifles, grenades... anything, really. And that, to me, is the more anoying: the truck goes up in flames and only 1 of the 12 infantry guys in it dies. All the others come out only with smoke damage to their uniforms!

I do not think the "tank round has killed my co-driver" is too much of an issue. Probably not a direct hit. If that were a T55 you would get the message "T55 hit by shell splinters. No effect". In a truck there is no armour, so the shell splinters took someone's head off... fair enough.
Although I accept the kill routines are not perfect: recently I have scored non-penetrating hits with HEAT ammo against light armoured APCs... from 100 and 50m range !!

The other question remains... Can I "kill" a truck by killing all the crew without WinSPWWII or MBT showing the vehicle blowing up?

RE: softies
You can't, when the last crew member dies the vehicle always end up in flames. They must have some sort of petrol bomb inside which is triggered when the last man dies. Abandoning a vehicle is the only way I can think of if you want a non-burning truck on the map.

It just happened to me yesterday, after having seen your post, with an Israel Scout Jeep. (just crew, nobody else onboard)
The IA phase replay was fast but I could just see the jeep was hit and abandonned. At the end of IA phase, I though I would find the crew somewhere but I could not. No crew on the map, no crew destroyed in the Unit menu!
But the jeep is on the map as "Abandonned"
I must say it's the first time I notice that.

RE: softies
I think it's possible. I had 2 of those 88 carrying trucks hit by mortars and artillery (did not blow up!) but all the crew were killed.
