Barges and their carriers

Barges and their carriers
A simple question: How the heck will I get a barge carrier to take a barge as its cargo? As I try to do it the barge takes the carrier and this is not exactly what I wanted  and I´m talking about 8.4 version.

As far as I know, the game starts with them loaded and once unloaded that is it. Don't know for sure though.

I think that is right. It's strictly a one way deal. You cannot unload the barge, drive the barge carrier on it, cross the river, load the barge onto the barge carrier then drive over to the next river. Or at least you couldn't the last time I tried I don't think you can load a barge carrier with barge onto a barge either. IIRC, something about the load cost can't be over 255. None of that is as much fun as dropping an ammo truck from an airplane and watching it explode when it hits the ground (sometimes). That was coded out a few versions ago.

RE: Barges and their carriers
OK, but I meant that when I´m only deploying my troops I tried to get the damn carrier to take the barge, the normal "L" button way, the game automatically loaded the carrier into barge, not the other way as I intended to. I.e. the result was a loaded barge on dry land. This has not happened with any other types on equipment.

Am I stupid or is this a bug?

RE: Barges and their carriers
I know that when you are loading a barge, you have to use a certain order. Normally, when loading a leg unit in a truck it doesn't matter which unit is active when you hit the 'L' key. With barges, it does. It has been so long since I last used a barge, I have forgotten which unit has to be active. I think it is the barge, but I won't argue when Narwin tells me I'm wrong.
Do you get a 'no room' error message? That would make sense, since a barge carrier has to be bigger then the barge to carry it.
I seem to remember something about barge carriers having multiple barges, which was deemed a bug and fixed. I didn't think of it as a bug, since a pontoon is sort of a barge and several can be carried on the same vehicle.
I was under the impression that barges came pre-loaded. Check and see if your barge carrier already has a barge on it. If so, that and the one barge per carrier bug fix would explain why you cannot load another barge.
