WinSPMBT (sounds)
Does anybody have any new information about updating sounds for weapons firing? I noticed some good stuff on U-tube and I was wondering if it’s possible to digitally record them and then insert them for the appropriate weapons system?

Good examples are the NATO 25mm cannon firing, Russian 30mm cannon firing and the list goes on and on.

Hello,

Yes, it's possible to record sounds and get them into the game.. MBT prefers mp3 format sound files..

You would have to record the audio, and save the file using the naming conventions found in the sound/stream folder. Once the file is there you'll have to start editing things in the OOB editor.

Unfortunately you cannot globally assign a sound to a weapon or vehicle.

you have to go into each country's OOB. Within the unit editing screen you can assign vehicle and weapon sounds.

so to get an accurate 25mm gun sound.. you'll need to open every county OOB, and then find each instance where the 25mm gun is used.. and assign the sound file that you created for it to use..

lots of work.. and once you edit the OOB, it no longer is 'original'.. so in full security PBEM games, you'll get a security failure that sees you and your opponent are not using the same OOB files.. which will cause the game not to open..

And... once SPCAMO generates a new OOB update, you'll get to start all over again.. :(

Unless, of course someone is willing/able to do a complete mod that SPCAMO would like to incorporate as a standard..

Sure it would; I know Cross is working on it too, why don't you look him up if you are interested in doing it and collaborate? Would save both of you time that is for sure.

Well, one of the things I do miss in ww2/MBT is the excelent sounds found in SPH2H.. the matrix team and then later Pz Leo did a really good job of customizing the sounds..

But.. I'm sure it was a huge investment of time..

I would think that once the work was completed that the blitz may consider putting the mod up for downloads..

The reason I brought it up is because it downed on me last week, in regards to sounds from U-tube. My MP3 player can record sounds.

I was thinking of going through some of the good stuff U-tube already has on file. With the USB port attachement I think it can be done.

First think I noticed when looking and listening to the sounds of the Russian 30mm cannon and NATO’s 25mm cannon is the difference in rates of fire. The Russian cannon fires much faster.

There is even stuff of the Russian rocket launcher “Borintino” not sure of the spelling but it shows that thing fireing and also shows the impact area. I think it would add longevity to the game.

My son started playing Call of Duty 4 and when you compare the sounds from that game the sounds of the SP series seem totally out of date.

Just my thoughts.

Don't listen to that Greybeard guy Big Grin He's making it sound far more complicated than it needs to be.

Converting sounds in WinSP is easy... well sort of... :rolleyes:

If you replace the original wav sounds (mp3 or wav for MBT) this will not cause any OOB PBEM issues. I am currently playing a full security PBEM game and have replaced over half of the original sounds. It sounds so much better :smoke:

The hardest thing about replacing sounds is identifying which sounds (in the sounds folder) are used by which weapons. The sound files are listed as 1.wav through 250.wav. I've been using an excel spreadsheet to slowly ID the sounds.

To identify some weapons I even resorted to recording my voice saying "twenty-three" "twenty-four" etc... and saving the recordings as 23.wav and 24.wav then replacing the game sound files with my recordings. Then in a battle, instead of hearing some unidentified explosion or MG, I'd hear "twenty four" and know that the weapon that just fired uses the 24.wav file.

I'll attach my latest spreadsheet to this post for WinSPWW2 sounds. It has a lot more sounds identified than in my Cross Sounds 0.5 spreadsheet (and corrects a few errors), but I've only replaced a dozen since 0.5, so I'm not ready to release ver 0.6 yet. SPMBT used many of the same sounds from SPWW2, so this will give you a head-start.

I've used sounds from WAW, MBT, PG, CM, BK, D Day, and other sources. I recommend the free Audacity utility:

which I used to shorten, lengthen, fade out, and create sounds.

Man wheres the love, we added over 150 new sounds for SPWAW Enhanced..
