Something happened on one of my present PBEM games that left me quite surprised.
As I watched the replay of my opponent's turn, I could see that he put a lot of machine gun and rifle fire on one of my jeeps. I could hear some of the bullets hitting the jeep, but no damage was reported.
When moved to that area of the map, I could see the "smoke" around the vehicle that you sometimes get when a vehicle is immobilised. I rallied the jeep, and found it was indeed immobilised.
The unit information screen shows damage = 0.
I thought that to immobilise a vehicle you would have to do some damage to it, and therefore the damage score would be 1 or higher.
I thought "damage" to a vehicle includes killing crew members. Is this correct?
Can a soft vehicle be immobilised and still have a damage score of 0 or is this a bug?
Yes, soft vehicles can have 0 damage and be immobilised. But I'm not sure if you can get it from direct fire. Most of the time it's caused by splash-damage from HMGs and artillery. Or getting stuck in mud/swamp/rough.
Your jeep was most likely hit by MG splash-damage.
"I thought "damage" to a vehicle includes killing crew members."
For soft vehicles, damage = number of dead crew.
"I could hear some of the bullets hitting the jeep, but no damage was reported."

Hmm? There's no hit sound for soft vehicles. :)
I don't remember earing it before myself, but I did (twice) on the case of this jeep.
Once I have finished the PBEM game i will reload this turn and do the replay again to double check. Probably MG splash damage, as you mentioned.
