Tech issue

Something very down to earth in the middle of all heated discussions:

Just got a new fancy computer with Vista and a Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT and tried to install CMBB, but it doesn't work well. I can open the game alright, but the graphics mess up once I enter a battle. Top half of the screen locks out. Tried to reduce screen resolution but that didn't help.

I see there are some old threads on this, and I also see that some people seem to be running CM with Vista and the same graphics card without problems. Is there a workaround or do I have to resort to playing CM on my laptop? Thanks for any help,.
