b_Exclamation Mark  First impression report Attacking disrupted units
Hi all,

i want to give a first impression report on attacking disrupted units playing the freshly released Matrix version 1.03.

i play Fritz (e.g. myself) in Huib´s "First Strike towards Hamich".

this is what happened:
directly adjacant to a strong comapny position is an already disrupted, non-isolated 2 (!) stength enemy US inf platoon.
i want to drive this unit off because it has LOS on many of my defensive postions and it looks like easy prey.
i have to attack from a village hex uphill into an open terrain hex. looks like an easy job!

1st attack:
assault conducted by a 4 str german rifle platoon
result: german unit disrupted
:censored::censored:

2nd attack:
assault conducted by a 6 str rifle platoon
result: no changes, enemy not driven off, hex not taken
:censored::censored::censored::censored::censored:

3rd attack:assault conducted by a 5 str rifle platoon
result: hex taken, US inf platoon retreats into hex contianing another US Inf platoon

WOW!
this is REALLY A CHANGE in game mechanics !!!!!!!!!!!!

it could be an interesting new aspect in CS
but
it could also spoil the whole game and unbalance the exsisting scenarios. :hissy:

On verra!

They've made a game that no longer resembles that game that we know and love.
I honestly was thinking that they tried to make improvements, when in fact they simply made changes that altered the entire game.

I have dark thoughts about the future of CS. And, my future with CS.

I actually like the fact that assaults on disrupted units are no longer automatic.
This makes more sense in terms of having that group of diehard swastika swinging thugs hold out against piles of NVKD enforced peasants from the ukebakajan providence a few turns longer than what they have been.

Want to ensure an assault? HA.... bring a Company then, not a squad.. Oh and use a leader :)

**** edited because it's obviously humor not worthy here.

Actually the assault rules aren't really new. Assaults now work the way they did back with the original EF.

Thanx!

HI

I havent played much yet but I think the new assault rules resemble SPWAW in many ways.

The defending unit being close assaulted in SPWAW actually gets to shoot back and defend it self in a close assault situation..you really need to have firepower around to take it out...I think what they may want to do for 1.04 is what was done for Pzblitz and leader...double disruption or DD result. This means a good slog of firepower should generate a second level of disruption after which a close assault/overun is going to be 90% successful..

The new program in 1.04 could reflect this:
a unit hit attacked generates a dispruted result
same unit attacked in same turn generates a second disrupted result
unit is now double dispersed: chances of morale recovery slim..its simple fix

A double dispersal represents a unit so disorganized that it cannot function effectively or has taken a high level of losses that it is essentially wiped out as a fighting organization

Good point Osiris. If you think about it, CS is kind of the odd man out in tactical games (only having two morale states for units). Every other tactical/operational game I can think of that considers morale has at least 3 unit morale states; Normal, Disrupted, Broken/Routed. That list would include John Tiller's Civil War/Napoleonic/Panzer Campaign Series. The absence of a broken/routed morale state in CS seems like a glaring omission.

Think of it as a NEW game, not the same old one...

Come along little generals you know nothings a sure thing in battle and while frustrating, it's all in good fun by giving you something to cuss about and beat on the keyboard... after all what good is a game if it's not increasing your Blood pressure and getting you stared at by family members... :P

When is anyone going to get it through their head that I did not want a new :censored: game? Eh?

I am so :censored: pissed off right now I am about to delete my account with the club. This is the biggest pile of crap I have ever seen.
I and many others have been saying we do not want a new game. Get it?
If the friggin' Matrix Company was trying to create a new game they should have made one and then issued it?

This sucks big time. You have no idea how much. And, you do not have to talk down to or patronize me or anyone else on the CS ladder.

I'm mad dammit. Everyone should know that. Do not talk to me or anyone else like we are little babies!
It feels like I am being spit on ... O.K.!!!

They should never have changed the game. I've been playing and enjoying the game for years. This really has made me think that I am wasting my time and have wasted almost ten years previously.

Just don't laugh about it or talk down to me about it. I am way too pissed off for that, O.K.?

Hey Ed, surely one can continue to play the CS games if one doesn't like the Matrix version? I'm sure there are plenty of people in the site who have their preferences.
