Excellent... I was watching a programme the other night about the DD tanks... do you know the Yanks launched them from 3 miles out at Omaha. 29 set off and only 3 made it to land... the rest sunk.
Was that the program where they dived on the wrecks and found they must have all drifted in the heavy seas? If so it was a very interesting show, imagine having to 'bail out' of a sinking Sherman. :(
No it was a different one although I know the one you are referring to.
This one was about the D-Day beaches, it says the British in their ships seen these DD tanks being launched so far out and a lot of fist shaking at the American crews took place as they thought they were being cowardly by not putting the tanks 'on the beach'.
They would have made a hell of a difference at Omaha.
Another clip which made me laugh was the fact that when the British went in on their DD tanks everyone 'bar the driver' clambered on top of the tank and were peaking over the DD cover as it approached the beach. Funny image... a bit like multiple Kilroys... LOL
