GREEN LIGHT TOURNEY

RE: GREEN LIGHT TOURNEY
MEMO TO EVERYBODY

As I mentioned earlier, even though the Green Light scen points are 4230 German and 2143 Russian, Bootie tells me the Blitz ladder system needs all games to be reported as 3000, so don't be surprised if your ladder placings yo-yo a bit til i've finished deleting all the old 5000's and replacing them with 3000's, it's a long job.
(PS-It could be a couple of days before i finish re-doing everything as 3k and the ladder will settle back down)

Consarn it, Andre!
I challenged you to a mirror match,
Scenario: CM: Infection!
If you accept, I'll send the files...

Oh, I just remembered a great Luck story...

A scientist wanted to test self proclaimed Lucky people VS self proclaimed unlucky people...

He slipped a $10 bill inside the pages of a book, along with the note: "If you find this note, you can keep the $10"... He then handed the book to his subjects, and asked them to "flip through the book / examine the book / read the book" (I can't remember the exact words...)

The results was so called "lucky" people found the note and the money much more often the the so called "unlucky" people...

Conclusion? Well, it seems that Lucky people are simply paying more attention...

I'm always delighted when my internal jumble of thoughts coincide with my external reality... The other day, the image of a Indian chief comes to mind, and seconds later I find out I'm on "Navaho" Pathway... Lame, but true...

Extraordinarius Said:
Quote:Carius leaned down and held out his cigarette, and at that moment a Soviet 85mm shot took the hatch off.

I'm sure front line soldiers would know best about "Knowing" when something is going to happen before it does... Constant alertness would certainly help attune you to the quality of the present moment...

RE: GREEN LIGHT TOURNEY
BLUE-ON-BLUE FRIENDLY FIRE

Being attacked by your own plane is so common in Green Light that it's hardly worth posting screenshots of such incidents any more but this example shows what all contestants are up against. It doesn't matter if you're Russian or German, sooner or later your own Sturmovik or Stuka will clobber you. (The Stuka pilot is crack, the Sturmovik pilot is green but it makes no difference, they'll both bomb their own men)

Here in my game with Warhammer11A, my Stuka pilot must really hate me, he already bombed me a few turns ago, immobing 2 panzers in that group at the base of the blue arrow and killing their passengers (inset top right) and now he decides to drop another two bombs on me; the yellow line shows the machines ground track and i've added two white lines to show the trajectory of the dropping bombs, they land in the white circle wiping out two German squads. A Russian prisoner vanished, presumably vapourised..
(PS- I know the Stuka dun it because the Sturmo doesn't arrive til turn 11)

Thanks mate, pity it favours the Germans a bit too much, but possible imbalance is always a risk when playing a brandnew untested scenario.
I could have playtested it first of course to tweak it but that would have given me an unfair advantage of prior playing experience, so instead I opted to play it for the first time in the actual competition itself, just like everybody else..
But if I had playtested it and tweaked it beforehand I think I'd have made the Russians a little stronger, possibly by bringing on all reinfs a turn earlier and/or making them regular instead of green.
No matter, the tourney is a mirror which negates any imbalance anyway because we all get to play the stronger side and the weaker side in turn..
Incidentally the Stuka and Sturmovik add a refreshing 'wild card' element that make each game different and keep the result unpredictable because a single airstrike that happens to hit in the right place can radically tip the outcome of a game one way or another..:)

General question for everyone really, Is having this kind of 'wildcard' a good thing in a tournement?

I know a lot of people play them just for the sheer fun anyway, but in a tournement do you really want the possibilty of the winner being decided purely on whether his air cover bombed his own side or not?

Goes back to the 'luck' discussion, with air cover you are relying purely on luck as you have not control over what it does at all and you really can't plan for it.

We've all been in the situation more than once where we know we're probably going to lose a game unless a miracle occurs, yet until then we have to keep plodding on with the chore of returning files (yawn).
Aircraft offer us the possibility of that miracle and keep our hopes alive, knowing that even though we might be losing at the moment, an airstrike on the enemy could come in anytime and even things up..:)

But then the opposite would also be true.

You've played one of the best games of your life, you have out thought, and out fought your opponent, and he has nothing left that could even remotely threaten you.

Then all of a sudden victory is snatched from you, but not because of some glaring gaff of your own, and by not because of some stroke of genius by your opponent; but purely and simply because some fly-boy's goggles have misted up and he bombs your own troops my mistake.

At least you have a chance to fire back at your oppoents planes!

Just seems to me rather a vague way in which to decide who wins a tournement
