LAST STATION CHALLENGE

Guderian shouted to his panzers as they roared past him- "Ticket to the last station!" - (meaning GO GO GO all the way), so I thought I'd throw the Green Light scenario open to anybody who hasn't entered but is following the thread and thinking- "Wonder how many flags I could capture?".
You'll be the Germans against me, it won't count for the ladder because it's slightly unbalanced in favour of the Jerry side, and it won't count for the tourney; it's just a fun thing purely to satisfy your curiosity about whether you can capture all 6 flags.

Here are the current 'flags captured' standings below, nobody's managed to take all 6 off me yet..:cool2:
Let me know if you'd like a crack at it and i'll send the scen file, it's the exact same one as all the competitors get, just 20 turns of driving fast and deep into the Russian motherland..
As always this is a 'World Challenge' open to all members of all CM clubs everywhere, so meet me in the blimp hangar and let's see what you got..

RE: The Last Station Challenge
Not going to enter, (haven't got CMBB for a start), but i'm curious; why, if this is the same scenario as the tourney, wouldn't these games count for the ladder?

Seems somewhat odd that on one hand you're saying that these won't count because the scenario is biased in favour of the Germans, and yet all the other games in the tourney have been reported for the ladder.

At the end of the day you are proposing the challenge so it is your choice, but surely not every scenario you've played has been exactly balanced, and you have played this map 70 times which must give you some advantage.

Unless of course you are sooo concerned about the damage to your ELO rating every time you lose a game...:whis:

Maybe if you actually owned and played cmbb you'd know mate..;)
No scen is ever perfectly balanced, and Green Light is no exception because the balance favours the Germans slightly, that's why to get a fair and valid ladder result it's necessary to mirror it so both players get to play the stronger and weaker sides in turn, geddit?
So if its played just once, no honourable German player would want to report his win on the ladder anyway..:)

RE: The Last Station Challenge
I think this is a good challenge, especially for anyone in the Tourney who feels they could have done better as Germans, and want to try again.

It is a real challenge of driving a spearhead forward at a fast pace. I only got as far as the Woods, and knew I needed to root out pesky Russ remnants thereabouts, but the clock ran out, and I never got any further.

I did not do well, and don't need further punishment...but others might enjoy a ''rematch'' of sorts........

cheers

Ha ha ha you're a funny guy, 40 games have been completed so far and I've only won 23, some 'advantage'..;)
As for all the competitors, I gave them the option to open up the scenario for close scrutiny in the editor before the start, and even playtest it to get experience of it if they wanted..:)
With all my tourneys everybody starts on as level a playing field as I can humanly make it, but don't take my word for it, ask around the neighbourhood..:)

So it's ok to play and report unbalanced games for both CMBO and CMAK? Sorry don't see your point.

PoorOldSpike Wrote:No scen is ever perfectly balanced,

Yep, that's what I said, so at least we agree on that.

PoorOldSpike Wrote:and Green Light is no exception because the balance favours the Germans slightly, that's why to get a fair and valid ladder result it's necessary to mirror it so both players get to play the stronger and weaker sides in turn, geddit?

So are you saying then that for ANY scenario, unless both parties rate it to say that it was exactly evenly balanced that the results shouldn't be posted! Or that every scenario has to be played mirrored just in case? Hmm, I wonder how many games that have been reported would have to be deleted if that were the case.

I wasn't talking about your Green Light Tourney, I was talking about this challenge so this is irrelevant.

PoorOldSpike Wrote:40 games have been completed so far and I've only won 23, some 'advantage'..;)

But you have played, or are currently playing 70 games are you not? Regardless of how many you win, are you saying that having played and completed 41 games, from both sides, you haven't gained ANY insight as to how best to defend, or how your opponents are likely to conduct their attack? What NONE!!!

That aside, the fact that you have won 24 games out of 41, in lieu of anything else, must be an indication of your consumate skill as a commander. Surely that alone must make up for the fact that the scenario, (as you've said), 'favours the Germans SLIGHTLY'.

I would have thought someone with as many medals as you, and who has topped as many ladders as you would be more than capable of handling any SLIGHT inbalance, and would leap at the chance of showing your worth in the face of adversity. If the games were reported, and the fact that your ELO rating would then be at stake, would hone and focus the minds of both you and your opponents which would make for much more tense and interesting games.

As I've already said though, it's your challenge and you can make up the rules, I was just curious as to the rational of not allowing your opponents to report results just because of a SLIGHT inbalance, when, (again as you say), 'no scen is ever perfectly balanced', and yet everyone else who plays them is quite happy to report the results.
