Maybe every game question already asked??
Maybe this one has been asked, but I spend a lot of time on the board and haven't seen it:
A unit is attacked and happens to "retreat" in the direction of the opposition. When the unit "retreats" it makes visable enemy units that it otherwise could not see at it's original "unattacked" position.
During this "fire phase" the unit is "retreated" several times, further giving it additional visablility of enemy units.
Before the "fire phase" ends, the aforementioned unit is finally destroyed.
The question is: When my opponent views the "battle" will he see the units that his destroyed unit viewed during it's several "retreats"?
This might not seem to be very important, but it could be if you happen to be discovered by this "retreating" unit that happens to be backed up by a host of enemy tanks that can now "shoot and scoot" versus your newly discovered armor with no Op fire :-)
Thank you,
Pat

RE: Maybe every game question already asked??
In the Manuals folder of the 1.03 UPDATE installation is a PDF that deals with assaults.
assaults_basics_v1_20080115.pdf
While I know that you are refering to retreating, you can take the directionallity of the retreats in the same form as assaults. Meaning, you can actually "herd" your opponents retreats (or not retreat if you wish) based on your unit(s) positioning.
Page 1, Sample 3: "Guided Assaulted Unit"
Page 2, Sample 1 "Assault against undisrupted units..."
Page 2, Sample 2 "Assault with probable.."
These would be examples of what I mean.
This being the case, having the unit retreat to somewhere you don't want it to is nearly completely in your control. And how well you dominate the battlefield.
In theory, of course.

RE: Maybe every game question already asked??
That may well be true Jason, but it does not answer my question.
Does the eventually destroyed unit still report those positions discovered during its retreat?
I understand that a plotted artillery piece that is destroyed during Op fire, does not fire. So, I am extrapolating, but perhaps incorrectly?
Thanks,
Pat

Your opponent should see every unit, in LOS, that interacts, with your retreating unit.
IOW with 1.04, he may not see a ATG that remains hidden if it does not op-fire. etc.

I'm certainly not happy with that answer, but accept it and thank you for the information.

Just because it is retreating in a direction and sees something, why should that be different than a unit moving on it's own in the same direction? Forward or backward makes no difference to the eyeballs of a unit.

i can answer your question ..basically the answer is depends with a strong leaning to no. the only way you can spot new locations after being shot all over the place is if you are still observing when its your turn again.
The biggest insult to human intelligence which is considerable in my opinion. Is the notion that the universe made itself. Has anyone ever see a star form? Come on people. what will they tell us now? The earth is flat?

That was the point of the question Schnurbart.
Could the eventually destroyed unit report it's observations prior to it's demise?
Thank you.

Have you ever watched a replay where your Shermans get wiped out by Tigers, then when your turn starts, all you see of the Tigers is a ? because the only unit that can see the hex is a truck? Same thing.
