How Many Games at One Time?
Hi Gents: :)
Curious. How many CS PBeM games do vets have underway simultaneously? :chin:
I know that this is a very subjective question that depends on an individual's real life circumstances, turn around speed of opponents, size of scenario, etc. It is also about striking a balance between gaming versus other life "stuff."
I'm looking to strike that balance... Currently I have 3 CS games going - two fast players who average 1-2 turns per day! and a third with a slower rate - maybe 1-2 turns per week. I believe I may have reached that "balance" for me, but wanted to see what others might post on this subject.
What do you guys see as a realistic number of games to have underway simultaneously? Also, how do you know when you have reached that "tipping point" and plotting your moves turns more into a chore instead of a fun pass time? :chin:

RE: How Many Games at One Time?
I currently have 4 CS games, going. Three are pretty much daily (5 to 6 turns each a week), and one campaign game is more like 1-2 turns per week.
I also have 3 Combat Mission games going (one 5-6 turns per week, one 3 to 4 turns per week, and one just started so I am not sure on turn rate), one Uncommon Valor game (about 1-2 turns per week) and one War in the Pacific game (about 4 turns per week but probably 60+ minutes per turn).

RE: How Many Games at One Time?
I'm down to fourteen individual PBEM games, plus one "3x3 teamer".
Half half of them are regular as clockwork with a turn per day. The other half seem to be hit or miss, depending on real life issues, and/or whether they are winning. ;)
Some players just take a bit longer?

14 PBeM CS games! Wow!
So... are you finding this number of CS games to be a good balance for you? Looks like you have multiple turns per day to reply - correct? I would guess that some of your games do not require a long "pondering time" before making your moves?

RE: How Many Games at One Time?
Mike, I am barely over .500 in win/loss. Does it seem that I ponder a moment of anything?
Some of my games are two turns per day. Some are one turn every other day. Few are one turn per week or more.
I think more in terms of rythm than I do of balance. I just play them when I get them. :smoke:

Probably 7 normal plus 2 team games and 1 combat mission.Have to space out my turns due to some being rather large.

RE: How Many Games at One Time?
When I first started playing, I couldn't get enough games and built the total up to around 12 or so.
One day I just crashed. Burned out major time.
I finished or resigned all my games and didn't play for about 6 months.
I got the old itch again and started playing, but keep my games to around 5 total. Two are large scenario's with opponents that move daily or every other day.
This seems to be a good balance for me. Since I am about to begin a tournament, I will finish two of my smaller scenario's and then not replace them.

I think that is the danger we (players) need to guard against. CS is a great game - kind of like the old AH Panzerblitz and Panzer Leader board games on "electronic" steroids. :smoke:
But... I know that in my case, I need to temper my desire to play a "new" (new to me) EF, WF, RS scenario versus the syndrome of "too many" simultaneous games.
Thanks to all the responders! Glad to get some insight from the CS vets.

RE: How Many Games at One Time?
I have taken on too many games in the past and got bogged down. I guess it depends a lot on how much time you have. When I've had more free time I've welcomed taking on a relatively large number of games. Time seems to be more at a premium these days so I try to stick to few opponents (3 active) and keep telling myself to take my time and think more about each move. Usually though, I still make impulsive and rash decisions as it's in my nature. But I like the idea of trying to plan my moves meticulously. Thinking about and planning your moves can be the most enjoyable aspect, playing less games give you more time to do this.

It also depends on the size of the games. You can easily play a couple SM 2 or 3 scenarios in the time you need to dedicate to a monster SM 10+ scenario.
