NIGHT FIGHT
Just started this cmbb 1500-pt QB ME, human-purchase May 45 against Sphinx, I'll do a brief AAR and couple of screenshots when it's finished.
It's NIGHT AND THICK FOG, giving a visibility of only 30 metres, how spooky is that?
If anybody else'd like a crack at it let me know, you v moi..:)

RE: NIGHT FIGHT
Night and fog makes the screen shots challenging to see.

Guess this would be a good fight for veteran + troops with SMGs and some portable AT capability and good stealth bonus leaders - they'd be ghosts tracking down the noisy clanking sounds of the opponent.

RE: NIGHT FIGHT
I will move it to the AAR's thread once you get moving POS.

RE: NIGHT FIGHT
Wouldn't these condition make the use of any vehicles nearly pointless?

The limited visiability means that even if they chase down enemy sound contacts you could be forever driving round within a few metres of each other and never see anyone, and at 30m range you're not going to get much chance to react.

Not even POS' pack tactics are likely to work at that range.

RE: NIGHT FIGHT
A flamethrowing tank or a heavy HE tank in hide might be a fun surprise to spring on advancing enemy troops but, yeah, use of vehicles might be a little challenging in general... definitely have to consider recon by fire as you move them, i.e. blow the crap out of an area before you move up.

Kelen mate, you admitted you don't even play CMBB, so why don't you install the game and sign up to show us all how to play it?..;)

No need to trouble yourself mate, I'm not going to do a long ongoing thread with lots of screenshots, i'll just put one simple endgame screenshot for each game in the AAR forum.

My comment had nothing to do with the fact that this was a CMBB game, it was purely an observation on the tactical situation.

The strategic use of armour has been discussed several times over the years with people's views falling pretty much into 2 camps. Either using armour primarily to reduce your opponent armour, or in an infantry support role.

It just struck me that in these specific conditions with visability down to only 30m it could do neither effectively. In fact the roles would probably be reversed and it would be down to the infantry to protect them from your opponents tank hunters.

RE: NIGHT FIGHT
Here's a post of mine lifted from Tac Discussion>Attacking featuring a playtest I once did for a night scenario-
-----------------------------------------------

NIGHT BATTLE

My Germans win a night battle against the AI.
I go fast down the left and sneak in the side door rather than try to go head-on..

It works, I get the win.
I used my standard night-battle tactics which means in night battles (or fog for that matter) your units are surrounded by a small 'circle of visibility', so by concentrating your whole attacking force inside that circle, it flies around the map like a lump of anti-matter obliterating anything that it touches..:)

RE: NIGHT FIGHT
Howdy,

Waiting for both turns - night fight and RTF. Cheers, Sphinx.
