[Not Responding]
Does anyone have any idea why the map area of my PzC screens is blanking out on my LCD monitor? It happens during oppo's turn, seemingly randomly. The game continues, I hear a bunch of combats occurring, and then eventually the map comes back. While this is happening, the windows bar on top of my game screen is saying [Not Responding].

The map also blanks out during my moves, but only when I scroll across the map. When I click the cursor on the map, the map comes back. Only seems to happen to some of my titles, but very annoying when it does happen.

I have a Vista system and nothing special about it, far as I know.

Any ideas out there as to what could be happening and how I could fix this?

RE: [Not Responding]
It is a Vista issue. Try selecting 'alternate scrolling' and see if that helps.

I use the alternate scrolling and not had any problems with moving the cursor. I will get the map to blank out if I click while the enemy forces are firing or something but it comes right back as soon as the enemy firing is done.

I've got two things to ask about this:

a) are you both running the newest patch from the HPS Website.
b) Have you consulted the link on the HPS Website entitled "Got Vista?" and followed all the steps they recommend there.

Yes, I'm running the newest patches from HPS. I've consulted the Got Vista list but I've had no problem installing my games in the program files folder and running them. The only time I have a problem is if I try to click on the next unit I want to work with before the computer is done doing defensive fire. Then the map will white out and stay that way until the computer is done defensively firing all the units it is going to fire with. As soon as they are done firing the map comes right back. I've just learned to be a bit more patient.

I had loaded Antietam on sister in law's puter and had the same thing. They have Vista also. Their monitor is several inches longer from side to side than it is from top to bottom like the tvs. I wondered if it had something to do with being formatted to the screen. My puter has XP and my monitor is now flat screen, but pretty much square like the older monitors. Didn't have this problem with 95/98 or XP. Then again it could have something to do with both Vista and the different sized monitor?

I really don't know. I'm a big, serious, continuous brain fart in these areas.

I think that this took care of the problem. Thanks a million. Now to test it on a big one like Stalingrad.

(To clarify, Biderman means:
a. Right-click on the game file,
b. Choose properties,
c. Choose the compatibility tab, and then
d. Choose "disable desktop composition.)

RE: [Not Responding]
FWIW, I have noticed this for many years now (I have Windows XP). This seems to be something intermittent, but (IMO) it seems to have to do with having many other windows open on your desktop.

At times, during the opponents replay, it seems like the game shifts focus off of itself, passing focus to another open window, thus causing the game's window to become "unresponsive" as the remainder of the replay plays out. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that before on map results were enabled, a pop up window would be displayed for each fire action. Technically the game is unresponsive because it is not allowing any user input since it is replaying the turn. All this is just an assumption, I have no idea what really causes it though and since it is intermittent then it has only been a minor annoyance. ;)
